Giants' numbers don't add up.
Robin O'Connor embezzled $1.5M from the Giants' front office and player payroll. I can only assume that she was emboldened by the lack of statistical knowledge among her superiors.

Wow. I ended up getting both an Insecure Certificate warning and a “Sorry Sports Fans That Page Doesn’t Exist” when I tried clicking the link. I’m guessing this story might have had some sourcing issues?

No, it’s just behind a registration wall on the Mercury News website. I didn’t realize the Merc was registration required, because for some reason it didn’t ask me for a login when I clicked the link on BBTF. Here’s a link to the baseball think factory discussion with an excerpt from the article:

I read the story on Yahoo anyway. That’s some hutzpah! Did the Mercury story include the classic “we don’t catch the smart ones” line? Because how she got caught really makes the story.

It was in the ABC video embedded in the article, yes.
I can’t believe that it took a year for the anyone to catch on, particularly since she was stealing from players. The players themselves may not be terribly business savvy, but it was my understanding that many/most have their paychecks pass through their agents (both to make sure the clients aren’t being screwed, and to make sure they get their percentage).
Also, how freaking stupid do you have to be to embezzle $1.5M and then take out a loan to cover a house you still can’t afford.

Is it really theft if you’re just given the combo to the safe?
