This game is not crucial.
Basically your 5th starter is making his second start off the DL (after a short rehab period). I don’t think you could have expected too much. Last year they had a solid chance to win every game for most of the year given the way the starters were going (except of course Wellmeyer and Zito after early August). Today shows you what most teams deal with in a 5th starter – which is why you need offense to have some big innings and also not waste the efforts of the 1-4 starters. Hopefully offense is waking up and next 4 games should be at least 3-1 (although 7 Ks and no walks off Karstens is disturbing).

It is maddening to hear Phillies' fans say Giants were lucky.
It really disrespects the great pitching we had (and still have). But seeing them this year, it does make you wonder. On the other hand we had Posey and Sanchez, so line up was better. But man, this offense is so bad.

Man….it really sucks to waste all this pitching talent with such impotent hitting. There was just no Plan B from team management if their junkyard hitters regressed.
