Who's gonna replace Jose Reyes for ASG?

Now that Jose Reyes has been placed on the disabled list, it is safe to assume that he won't be playing in the ASG.  So, after the jump, let the games begin...

Star-divide

Assuming that the 2 pitchers who are scheduled to pitch on Sunday (Matt Cain & Cole Hamels) will be replaced by pitchers, then we would think that a position player would be chosen to replace Reyes.  Technically, the pick comes from the manager and the Commissioners office, but I would guess Bochy gets to make this call.  From what I can tell, there are probably 4 possible replacements which are as follows:

Danny Espinosa - .247/.334/.474, 16 HR, 2.5 WAR.  The average looks bad, but his other stats are appealing.  Middle infielder makes sense to replace a middle infielder.

Jamey Carroll - .303/.370/.373, 1.6 WAR.  Better average, good OBP, but not much power.  Again, middle infielder replacing a middle infielder.

Andrew McCutchen - .291/.389/.491, 12 HR, 22 2B, 5.0 WAR.  Probably the best case of the players so far, decent average, good power numbers.  This would quiet all of those who thought he was the biggest snub when Bochy picked Beltran.  However, he is an outfielder, not an infielder.

Pablo Sandoval - .303/.346/.506, 2.2 WAR.  We all know about Panda, not much needs to be said.  If he hadn't missed time, I think he would have been voted in by the fans.  His roughly 100 at bats less than everyone else is what makes him being selected questionable.  However, Bochy could make a homer pick and take the infielder.

What sayeth you...

UPDATE

Ryan Braun missed his 5th straight game today and could miss the All Star game. Should that happen, I think it would be a no-brainer that McCutchen is picked.

I thought it would be a no-brainer that McCutchen would replace Victorino, but apparently that slots going to Ethier which just blows my mind.

IIRC, injury replacements depend on how the player was selected. If he was voted in, then the next highest vote total at that position automatically gets the nod (or is at least hugely favored). The Beltran selection can be explained the same way, he had twice as many votes as McCutchen (Ethier had even more votes than Beltran, but the team badly needed someone who could at least fake center field).

I’ve never heard that! Huh. But the Beltran selection was completely on Bochy, that had nothing to do with votes (in fact, Bochy tried to rationalize it on the stats in the paper the other day).

It was on Bochy with league input. I don’t think it’s anything official, but I just noticed that the pattern of selections, final spot poll picks, and injury replacements seems to jive pretty well with fan vote totals.

I could have been a homer and voted Sandoval, but McCutchen should be there. I am also a big fan of Espinosa, and that’s where my vote went.

Polanco is injured right now too isn't he?

That would likely make Panda his replacement if I had to guess.

It should be McCutchen

Jonathan Sanchez. He's left-handed, like Barry Zito. His fastball breaks 80, unlike Zito.

Victorino is also injured.

It would be soooo appropriate for Pablo to replace him.

Chris Ray is not Bengie Molina.

I voted McCutchen.

What can (Gary) Brown do for you?

It should be Pablo, no question!

Every freakin manager picks his own guys, Bochy should do the same period.
Also Panda mania at the allstar game will be unmatched.

Who would be the next highest at SS (player vote)?

Isn't Tulo injured too?

There will definitely need to be a replacement SS with only Starlin being ready to play.
