Debunked: Giants Release Burrell; Option Belt
Just released by CSN Bay Area...maybe it's the same "source" that said Sabes was moving Culberson and Peguero instead of Wheeler...Why DFA PtB and not Rowand or Tejada or Hinshaw??

Why DFA PtB and not Rowand or Tejada or Hinshaw??
Because the Giants have no intention of playing Burrell in the majors, and they’re not dumb enough to imagine that he’d accept a minor league assignment.

For 1 thing it doesn’t work that way. The Giants can’t just release a guy on the 25-man roster. He must first be DFA’d and go throught the waiver wire. After 48 hours, if no team claims him, the Giants can then release him or he can accept a minor league assignment. For a 2nd thing, we have no idea whether or not Burrell would accept a minor league assignment.

This story seems fishy
1. You can’t release a major leaguer when he’s on the DL.
2. Burrell was put on the DL on July 14th or 15th, so he has at least 2 more days before he can be activated and released.
3. Why wouldn’t they DFA Bill Hall before Burrell? Hall is not worth much to the Giants with Keppinger on the team and Fontenot back off the DL. Hall has been eligible to come off the DL for the past 3 days.
