minor lines, 6/4/11

Saturday highlight from the Giants' farm: Adam Duvall homered twice.

Star-divide

AAA: Fresno hosting Las Vegas postponed by rain
(A makeup doubleheader is scheduled for tomorrow.)

AA: Richmond defeated Reading 3-2
(rallying for two runs in bottom of 8th inning)

Richmond: RF Roger Kieschnick: 2 for 4, SO

Richmond: SP Justin Fitzgerald: 7.0 IP, 7  H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K--1 HR
Richmond: RP Danny Otero: 1.0 IP, 1 K

Kieschnick was the lone Flying Squirrel to reach base twice.  His season line is now .241/.290/.359 through 195 AB.

Fitzgerald matched a season high with 7.0 IP but also matched a season low with 2 K.  In his eleventh start, he finally allowed his 1st HR this year.  Overall, he maintained his ERA just below 3.00. Otero pitched a perfect 9th inning for his 1st save.  Two years ago, he had 19 saves in this league before an injury ended his season and cost him much of last season.

A+: San Jose vs Visalia postponed by rain
(A makeup doubleheader is scheduled for tomorrow.)

A-: Augusta lost to Asheville 10-5

Augusta: 3B Adam Duvall: 2 for 3, 2 HR, 2 BB
Augusta: C Jeff Arnold: 2 for 4, 2B, SO
Asheville: DH Kyle Parker: 3 for 5, HR, SO

Augusta: SP Gaspar Santiago: 2.2 IP, 5 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 4 BB, 3 K--1 HB, 3 WP
Augusta: RP Mario Rodriguez: 3.1 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K--1 HR
Asheville: SP Tyler Matzek: 3.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 4 K--1 HR

Duvall had his 13th and 14th HRs, driving in four of the GreenJackets' five runs.  Arnold was the other GreenJacket with two hits, including his 11th double.  Parker, the Rockies' first round pick a year ago (26th overall), was the game's lone hitter with three hits, one of which was his 7th HR.

Santiago's third start was ineffective.  Rodriguez was more effective in long relief.  Both pitchers now have ERAs close to 4.85.  Matzek, the Rockies' first round pick two years ago, continues to scuffle.  This was his first start since just being demoted back to the Sally League.

DSL: Giants defeated Blue Jays 4-2

Dominican: 2B-3B Alberto Robles: 2 for 3, 3B, HBP, CS
Dominican: SP Marvin Barrios: 3.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Robles (20.8 y.o.) had his third straight two-hit game.  Barrios (18.8 y.o.) has yet to allow an earned run in his first starts (covering 7.2 IP).

Not often you see a guy go from “steal of the draft” to total bust.

Seth Rosin can hit the side of a barn with a baseball. From space.

Damn, Duvall is impressive

.859 OPS despite a .250 BABIP. Send him to San Jose!

Yeah he probably deserves a promotion

Though his OPS is only about an .850. Have him play some LF/RF and have him take a corner OF spot- if Brown goes to AA then Parker can play CF, if he stays then, sorry Wendell Fairley.

But I can’t see Duvall replacing Dominguez (because of the $ invested) or Cavan (he was kinda like Duvall last year).

I agree that he’s unlikely to be a 3B going forward. I think that 2b is the best position for him (he played there a lot in college), with LF being the fallback.

Keep an eye on my son, Jake "The Jacksonville Rifle" Dunning. From SS to the mound - exclusively toeing the rubber since March 2010.

Someone here is a Phillippe Aumont fan, right?

The Squirrels hung the loss on him. Oops. To be fair, the winning rally was unearned. To be fairer, it was his error with two out that started the rally.

I remember on draft day

When people were saying MadBum was “a RH Aumont”. He ended being a little better than that.

FYI - San Jose's Doubleheader makeup is scheduled for late July

It will still count as a first half game. Somehow, I don’t think it’ll have a big effect on who wins the first half championship.

Is Panda playing for Fresno or San Jose today?

Buster Posey: Let's enjoy him before he goes to the Yankees because he wants to win the World Series. Wait, what???

Wheeler was scheduled to be on the mound, yesterday. Instead, he will be pitching today against the Ports, and the game will be televised locally on CHN, 1:09 + 1:00 start time.

Adopted Giant: Jacob Dunnington. My Dunning is better than your Dunning, by a ton.

I’m having trouble finding CHN on Comcast Digital Cable. I’m in the East Bay. Do I get this channel? :/
