The Giants have promoted catching prospect Hector Sanchez from High-A San Jose to Triple-A Fresno.

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle writes that the Giants "want to see what they have in Sanchez before making a deal" for a catcher. The 21-year-old is skipping over Double-A after batting .301 with an .832 OPS in San Jose. Even though Sanchez wasn't ranked among Baseball America's top 30 Giants prospects coming into the season, GM Brian Sabean considers him "a legitimate prospect. He's a very mature kid and he can swing the bat. What better place to get a baptism by fire?" But, in the same breath, Sabean also gave Eli Whiteside, who has taken over the everyday role with Buster Posey out, a vote of confidence. "The manager, coaching staff and pitchers really trust this guy," Sabean said of Whiteside. "They really admire him, and that means a lot."
