Gary Brown or Tyler Graham
After hearing someone saying that Brown is a "Poor man's Tyler Graham" I wanted to find out what people on here thought. Just a quick observation, and my opinion:
Tyler Graham was drafted in 2005... finally posted a good line in Fresno just last season... also has never played a full season. If I were to compare Graham to anyone, it would be Darren Ford, with less speed.
Graham hit .340, but had a total 2 HR's, 25 XBH, and a .097 isolated power. Brown, in his first professional season, is hitting .369 w/ a .170 isolated power, and 28 stolen bases (Graham- 22).
Brown is on pace for 50 XBH- realistically, he'll be around 35-40. Graham is currently hitting .261 w/ 7 XBH.
Projections are hard to judge by, but clearly, Brown has more upside, hitting the way he is in his first professional season.
Just my opinion from what I've seen, feel free to comment. I could be completely wrong, just let me know- no hard feelings.

whoever said that was surely joking
Gary Brown is an excellent prospect, he can really hit and projects as a legitimate lead off hitter and center fielder. At this point nobody would argue that he is the #3 prospect in the Giants system. Tyler Graham is not a prospect at all.

I like Tyler Graham...
…but who the heck said that, and where, so I can get some context and immediately take away his credibility?

you like him?
I mean, as a whateverth-rounder who’s finally having a good year with the bat in the PCL, sure. But.. I mean.. yeah.
As a Fresno native
I had the opportunity to see Tyler Graham more than a few times in 2010. He played well, but I knew he wasn’t much more than an organizational soldier. Saw him again last week and he really struggled against a middling pitcher from New Orleans. He came down to earth.
I also can’t wait for Gary Brown to get here, so I’m with everyone else in this discussion.

My impression is that everyone on here now pimps the living hell out of Brown, even though many were sour the Giants picked him.

Well not everyone. Draft day panic is really dumb. I still remember a bunch of people hating on Posey and calling Posey’s swing ugly.
There's a First for Everything:
Edgar Renteria, The First World Series MVP in Giants History.
Irrrational freakouts over perfectly good draft picks is part of what makes McCovey Chronicles what it is. People around here didn’t like the Lincecum, Bumgarner, or Posey picks. If a pick was universally praised here that would make me very worried about the pick

But, but,
We could have drafted Beau Mills! Beau Mills, dude!

Man, I was pushing hard for Mills that year

Tim Beckham’s actually starting to figure it out a little.

I always get him confused with Gordon Beckham.
"Lee pitches...Renteria hits a high drive, deep left-center field, David Murphy going back, he's on the warning track—it is...go-one!"
A little bit, not a lot. And there’s also a question as to whether or not he can stick at SS.
MY DAD WAS WRONG!
MY BOY NEEDS TO THROW HARDER!
That may be
But it still looks much, much worse than any of the four picks below him. Were they just trying to save money or was it that they thought Posey’s asking price would be too high?
I said Posey’s swing looked long, but it came with a disclaimer that I know nothing about what swings look like.
Currently stifling the bacon, the world.

Posey’s swing looked like a hippopotamus!
I feel prickishly demanding!

I like him
And I"m still pissed the Giants used their pick on him. He’s really calmed down the lower half of his body with regards to his swing, but I don’t think many questioned his upside when he was drafted, it was more that he had a lot of question marks for someone drafted so high.

I want Bowker Back
The pirates are wasting him in triple A. Huff is making eleven million to hit worse
than Bowker would hit this year in the majors. We have Travis Ishikawa and Brett
Pill ready and able.
The poll seems kinda silly. You could pretty much guarantee everyone is going to vote Brown
And yup, currently 95% of the votes have gone his way.
Really though, thats a good thing, as he is having a really great season so far. Hoping his performance is for real and he’ll be replacing Torres and Scott in center within a couple years!
Its funny because f*** the dodgers
First off, you have to stop eavesdropping on Joe Biden’s conversations. Secondly, what the hell was Joe Biden doing in Fresno?
Whoever said that doesn’t know the meaning of the “a poor man’s” term. Gary Brown was a first round draft pick that signed for around $1.4M. He’s the “rich man” in the comparison since more was/is expected of him, and he got the big bucks. Now, if he/she had said that Tyler Graham was a poor man’s Gary Brown then you would know you were listening to somebody that had a modicum of sense.

I suppose I could have used somebody on the ESPN baseball staff, but I didn’t think that they would capture the same universal appeal. I don’t think that it’s a political statement to acknowledge that Biden has a hilarious tendency to put his foot in his mouth.

Also, for the next poll I think it should come down to Brandon Crawford and Ryan Rohlinger, wait, what’s that you say….too late.

Gary Brown is [hyperbole] fast and aggressive on the base paths. He still has a couple of seasons to go to really hone his skills.
Tyler Graham has some tools, but needs polish. I feel like he’s going to be a AAAA lifer.
