Just back from the Grizzlies/Sky Sox game
some thoughts--
1) that stadium is still a dump
2) that mascot is just as annoying as that damn dinosaur. What an awful organization.
3) Brett Pill uhhhhh.....is not a second baseman
4) Belt should have had a home run in the first; wind knocked the ball down and the rf made a great play. Ended up doubling the runner off of first, though a run scored.
5) Fresno is bad. They don't even look like a team out there. First baseman playing second base, right field, left field. Pitching is awful.
6) Gillaspie looked pretty good; one of his doubles was wind aided (wind was swirling around the stadium--coming in from right and then a jet stream to left). He hit it to the 385 sign in left center and I doubt he has that kind of power. Also, he should probably ditch the mullet as baseball is a family game and kids don't need to see that.
7) Jackson Williams is not a very good hitter.
8) Always fun to see a lot of Giants fans at the stadium.

double switch. He made the second to last out in the 8th
and I think Decker just knew the game was over and wanted to get him out of there. We were right behind the plate and as he was coming back to the dugout he was talking to Gillaspie about what the guy was throwing and everything looked fine.
What was Belt’s error like? How did his D in Left look?
"Don't trust anyone under the age of 30" - Brian Sabean
misplayed a ball down the line
batter hit one of those grounders over the third base line and Belt misplayed it into a triple (would have been a double).
This is just one game, so take it for what it’s worth, but he gets turned around a lot in left field. He didn’t look comfortable out there (certainly understandable). As I mentioned though, the wind was really swirling out there and that stadium is just such a dump (poor lighting, etc) that I cannot imagine he was getting good reads off of the bat.
Do you think that the first baseman who actually gets to play first base feels like the king of all the first basemen?

Have a rec ! Well done sir.
I'm a Giants Fan, but I'll always be rooting for Matt Downs

They’re not a team right now because we took a bunch of middle infielders and gave them 2 first basemen and say : Here, um, yeah make this shit work.

fresno is not bad
they just have 4 first basemen…and a bunch of guys who are now with the giants
the fact that they are winning at all is a testament to the artistry of decker and his coaches
I totally agree with you guys
should have mentioned that I think Decker has to be doing an amazing job;.
Also, I forgot to mention that Bond was in the original lineup but ended up as a scratch. Not sure what happened there.
Gillaspie
What did you think of his setup? I remember seeing him for the first time last year in Richmond and wondering how the heck he could hit with his hands so far forward. Obviously, I don’t know very much about the topic, but he seemed like he had a lot of unnecessary motion — like he had to bring his hands back as the pitch was delivered. Of course, he had a solid double in the game I saw, but still…not what I had expected based on what I read.
Thanks a bunch for the great observations!

I didn't notice the hands (twss)
his stance did seem a bit closed, however.
His opposite field double caught me off guard as he appeared late on the ball and I didn’t think he could get it out to 385. His first single was also to left (opposite field).
Perhaps he is late to the ball; not sure.
Decker's job is not to win baseball games
It is to develop players for the Giants. He appears to be doing a superb job.
