house money

I know its frustrating watching this offense and the defense and Miguel Tejada looks pretty washed up to me but I have a new found perspective after the glorious 62 days that followed August 31, 2010 and the wonderful victory lap of a winter.  I am still convinced that we were maybe one Edgar Renteria swing from a 1-0 defeat in game 5 and another epic heartbreaking collapse in games 6 and 7 (such thoughts tend to be more present following losses) but he did hit a three run homer and all the prior glorious hits that could have been near misses fell in and all the calls went our way.  I still root for the Giants every minute of every day and I will do so until the end of my days.  Now that we have won the World Series in my lifetime I know what won't have to be my last thought and deepest regret...

So this year we play with house money, knowing we were 41-40 halfway through last year, knowing we have a team that can win, even with all its flaws.  I hope all Giant fans can take solace and keep 2010 in sight all the days of their lifes as I intend to.  Go Orange and Black.  Tonight I will be (1) cheering for you and (2) thanking you again from section 128, row 10, seat 1 at citi field.

Who robbed Hugh Laurie?

Real talk though, we were never under .500 last year, even at our worst. This is bad.

yeah

but think of it this way, 3 everyday players are having the worst years of their careers, and 2 more are injured.

I thought about it that way

And then I was more sad. Why did you tell me to think about it that way!?

We're two games under .500

That is not a large number. Belt will come up at some point. Between Posey, Huff, Ross, and Tejada, I’m gonna bet that at least 2 of them get it going offensively. And while the pitching hasn’t been perfect, it’s stayed pretty good.

While I would not bet that we’re going to win the World Series again, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we’re 41-40 halfway through.

We’ve had a lot of bad luck, so we’re a lot worse team than we expected, but the Giants were good enough to begin with that the worse team they’ve become ain’t totally horrible.

I still have hope.

Wouldn’t you trade Tejada, Huff and Ross for Crawford right now?

post script

First, it was a great game to welcome the defending world champions to nyc and second, it was a torture never felt so good kind of game. third, reyes would look swell in black and orange. I guess its fitting that lineup could produce 7 runs in 10 innings but it sure looked bleak for a little while….
