Thread Deletion?
Yest I posted my first fanpost on here and while it wasn't pulitzer winning, I thought it was valid nonetheless. It had 6-7 comments, even a poll question. It was the one entitled "3 Questions". One of which expressed hatred for AJ and Cousins (maybe this is why it got kicked?) Another asked if we should've retaliated- is this why it got kicked? The other was about Ryan Doumit.
As for the retaliation one, Cousins play was def old-school; if you're gonna play old-school, its def a 2-way street and while nobody may want to talk about purposefully hitting a batter, its a part of the game and a legitimate question.
The first one? I presumed most everybody hated AJ and Scott (tho the .158 hitter is from the Bay Area, so maybe his mom read it or something)
Someone please enlighten me- did no one read it? Technical glitch? Too edgy a topic? Did a flamewar/troll get a hold of it after I went to bed here on the EC last night??
Thanks,
Jason (Giants fan since 87)

There are links at the bottom of the page to e-mail the moderators directly. That would probably be the best approach for such inquiries.
I didn’t delete it, but this is something that should be done via email rather than making a Fanpost. (I will probably delete this one)
Ha! true, right Evan
Natto,
I was never emailed or contacted about it, so I never thought to do so myself. Nothing vulgar, so why can’t we discuss this like adults out in the open?
Kung Fu Pandamania.
Because the rest of us don’t want to have to hear about it every time someone gets their crappy little post deleted. Which is not to say your particular post was crappy, but you get the idea.

Fair enough
but the mods should atleast have the stones/courtesy to let someone know why their “crappy post” was deleted

in b4 second deletion
You may remember me from such deleted threads as, “Who does Cliff Lee think he is?”
but the mods should atleast have the stones/courtesy to let someone know why their "crappy post" was deleted
As a pet peeve of mine, I want to address this point:
This may sound fair, but it’s really not. Moderating a site this big can be a lot of work, which is why Grant brought so many of us into the mix in the first place. None of us have time to go around making sure that every little action we take is cool with every single member we take it against. It sounds like a really, really dick thing to say, but one of the most valuable tools for a moderator of any site to have is the willingness to not explain every little thing you do.

That was a great way of explaining why you don’t like explaining.

It sounds as though Jason wasn’t asking you to notify everyone – just him. As a non-moderator of long-standing, that doesn’t sound unreasonable to me.
Baseball players are smarter than football players. How often do you see a baseball team penalized for too many men on the field?
And then what about the next guy whose thread gets deleted or whose comment gets hidden? That’s my point. We shouldn’t be asked to spend the time to be accountable to every individual who manages to get something deleted. One guy? Sure, that sounds reasonable. But then in fairness we need to do it for the next. It’s not a fair snowball to ask us to carry.
If we see fit to explain ourselves for cleaning up the website, and I think we do far more often than we need to as a group, it’s because we’re going out of our ways to do so. Not because we should be doing it.
That’s how I feel about it.

For the record, I agree. I usually ignore fanposts, but if I delete/hide a thread or comment, I don’t think I have to contact the person telling them why.

nor should you
have to wait to hear a response from the person, either.

I usually send a warning when I delete a thread
So the person knows why. But yeah, it’s more work.
The thong is, it happened.
Because it doesn’t really warrant a discussion. If a Fanpost is deleted, it’s normally pretty obvious why. Also like Grant said, it doesn’t appear that you’ve had anything deleted. Perhaps SBN ate it. I don’t actually remember what your Fanpost was, so I can’t comment about the content of it.

Especially if it’s in text speak (“Yest”, “def”, “tho”).

Maybe it was because the topic could have just been a comment in one of the 50 other Posey related threads.

You haven’t had a thread deleted. I checked your profile, and it tells when a comment or FanPost is deleted.
Gee are you sure your post just didn’t get scrolled off your McC homepage? If you have your settings at “show last 5 fanposts/fanshots” maybe you just got cut off the page?
And yes people around here do tend to get snarky when 109,000 people post the exact same story in a fanpost or fanshot. Don’t make me start counting Buster Posey rosterbation fanposts!!!! I’m out of work in 3 weeks, I’ll have plenty of time to do it. Don’t go there people!

Normally, if I delete a thread...
…it’s usually because it’s either a duplicate thread of a topic already being discussed, spam or someone just copying and pasting a post from their own (crappy) blog (aka more spam). Rarely do I delete a thread because it’s lacking sufficient content, although it can be pretty tempting sometimes.
My pet peeve is when people join the site and rather than joining existing conversations or even look around a little, start posting Fanposts like we were all anxiously awaiting their prose. I’m not anti-noob in the slightest, but I’m far more likely to read a Fanpost from someone I’m familiar with.
The thong is, it happened.
catching up
been outta town with the GF, so hadn’t been able to follow the goings-on. Looked again for the thread under recently posted and didn’t see it, so maybe SBN ate it. Anyway, I understand why mods have to delete crap on a daily basis but I couldn’t understand why mine (seemingly) got axed. Yes, Doumit and other replacements had been discussed, but I thought the question of retaliation was relevant…and I still expect to see some form of it in August. Plus I had a really awesome poll question IMO. I mean, my brother and I (also lifelong Giants fan) had not too long ago made up a dart-game using excess AJ 98 Bowman Chrome cards. Tallied the points based on bodily damage; should’ve copyrighted and marketed the dam thing.
Anyway, peace out, I’ll go back to lurking McC (and treating patients, hanging out w family and signif other).
Love y’all, Go Giants!!
