Mrs. Goofus and I will be there saturday as well and, as near as I can tell, we’ll be sitting approximately where Ferris, Cameron and Sloan sat on their day off.

The question isn’t “what are we going to do,” the question is “what aren’t we going to do?”

Baseball players are smarter than football players. How often do you see a baseball team penalized for too many men on the field?

Seeing the Giants at Wrigley is a dream I need to make happen.

Wrigley is an amazing park. Friendly confines, to be sure. Unfortunately, it is falling apart, and in the concourses and depths of the park it smells like mildew and pee.

Also, it’s currently 86 degrees, and on Saturday and Sunday the respective high temps are 56 and 53, with rain in the forecast. Chicago spring is basically alternating winter and summer. Bleh. Can I get a nice 70 degree day with no humidity? No, I can’t.

Except for the rain, that’s SF weather. RIght up the Giants’ alley, especially with Timmy pitching on Sunday.

I just hope they get the games in

If they have to play makeup games, it’s really doubtful we’d make it back out there

How can North Side CEGF not be part of this group?

Roger, I always did like you

Unfortunately, I think I’m out on Sunday because of a prior commitment GRRRRR Dr. Girlfriend!!!

That’s why I have tickets for Saturday (Vogelsong Day) rather than Sunday (Lincecum Day). Of course, having tickets for Saturday is still good, but not having tickets for Sunday isn’t.

I will be cheering on Vogelsong and the boys while wearing a # 55 jersey on Saturday. I think upper deck LF; my GF got tickets, and late. Actually I think we got tickets on the iPhone while at AT&T Park last Friday.

I’m also going to at least the June 28 game at Wrigley, if not more in that series. But Friday and Sunday were out this time because of other crap. :p

I sent you an email

We’ll be there Satuday too. Maybe we can try to meet up.

The thong is, it happened.

I got the email. I’ll answer later, but we probably will be at the Gingerman (on Clark, just north of park) before the game. I’ll update you.

Your email sparked a memory in me: I was sure that I saw the last, or one of the last appearances of Ryan Vogelsong as a Giant in a game at Wrigley Field when I was living there. But I couldn’t seem to track such a thing down, and in fact the Giant’s only trip to Wrigley that year was after he’d been traded to Pittsburgh.

Finally figured out that I was thinking of this game, which was not only Scott Linebrink’s final appearance as a Giant, but they actually announced the trade immediately after the game was over. And looking it over, I remember that that game featured one of those awful excuciating Russ Ortiz performances where he hit the 100 pitch count somewhere in the 4th inning (not made any more endurable by the horrid July heat). His turnaround the 2nd half of that season was absolutely stunning, and was probably the biggest reason why I expected that team to the World Series. Ironically, it was a game featuring a brilliant Ortiz’ performance that caused that post-season to go down the drain.

Wow. That game was ugly. Oh, what 2000 could have been.

that’s the worst year in the history of all my years as a baseball fan. To lose in the playoffs to the New York Mets? The shit I took here in NY from all my Mets fans friends and co workers, followed by all the Subway Series crap? I wanted to crawl in a hole and hide until the next baseball season. I blamed that loss squarely on Dusty Baker. That game two where they made the miracle comeback on JT’s homerun, and Dusty left FRod in to pitch the tenth after he gave up a two run homer to Edgardo Alfonzo in the ninth with Robb Nen still in the pen cost us that series. Let’s not even get into the Bobby Jones game, where trailing 1-0 in the fifth he allowed Mark Gardner to bat with the bases loaded. In an elmination game? Really? Gardner not only made the third out, but he gave up two more runs in the sixth to effectively end the season.

Buster Posey: Let's enjoy him before he goes to the Yankees because he wants to win the World Series. Wait, what???

I can’t believe the Giants are back on the road for seven games after finally getting out of that 22 out of 31 road nightmare to start the season. This team did exactly what it had to do though on that homestand going 6-0. I thought they’d start the season in a hole because of the schedule and it would take awhile before they got back in it. Can’t believe they’re in first place already.

Get all those road games out of the way early — check that beautiful July/August schedule. It’s going to be the coolest dog days ever.

UPDATE TIME!

So now I am going to the Sunday game, but I still have something in the morning and can’t make the meetup.

BUT HAPPY LINCECUM DAY TO ME!

Another Update

Saturday game: I am trying to get people together at the Gingerman Tavern, 4730 N Clark (just north of Wrigley Field) at 4pm. Perhaps earlier if there’s interest. It’s a cool bar, kinda hipster dive-y, less frat-boy shenanigans than other places nearby. Good times.

Just an FYI

If its raining like it is now (Sat. night), we won’t be leaving early for to the ballpark tomorrow. I am hoping for better weather for Timmy Day.

Thanks

After 85 degrees from Wed-Fri morning, that was ugly. I’m going to try to get out to Cubby Bear on Sunday morning; hope there isn’t too much of a line.

Hey, maybe we should also do an after-game meetup? I vote Gingerman again. I do love that bar.

Is there a back room with a pool table and a cat that’s always sleeping on the bar there? If so, it was a favorite of mine too.

I know you did, how could you not?

We were being tourists today and got soaked. I got back to my room and cranked up the heat. So toasty now, we were suppose to go to a blues club tonight but I’m much to cozy in my room.

BOOOOOOOOOOOO WEATHER

The forecast really is terrible even though it’s not yet raining much.

No Lincecum Day :(

Monday before June series at Wrigley is already being used as a makeup date for another PPD date with the Rockies. I think a doubleheader with two different visiting teams in one day would be awesome. Not happening, but awesome.

by North Side Chicago Expatriate Giants Fan on May 15, 2011 9:20 AM PDT up reply actions

Going to the Field Museum instead not quite the same as Timmy pitching but good in its own way. And we went on Friday so we at least got to experience the friendly confines of Wrigley field.

I would like to take this time personally to apologize for Chicago’s weather. It was 85 degrees plus a few days ago. Then on Friday morning at about 9am it was still 75 degrees or so. Within an hour the temperature dropped 15 degrees and it has been brutal ever since.

Chicago spring is crap. Average temp looks good, but it seems as if it’s either 55 or 85, and that 70 degree average never really happens.

by North Side Chicago Expatriate Giants Fan on May 15, 2011 9:34 AM PDT up reply actions

Yes, Northside, Chicago punked us on Friday. We did the stadium tour at 9 AM in t-shirts and shorts and about the 2nd inning we were buying orange “Wrigley Field” sweatshirts in the stadium store. Still froze. The wind chill dropped the temp about 10 degrees more.

The San Francisco Giants are the World Champions.

Brutal rainout.

Did you get to see yesterday’s game at least, Goofus?

by Grant Brisbee on May 15, 2011 9:24 AM PDT reply actions

I was lucky to be in seats back underneath the stands. Rain was not super heavy but absolutely constant throughout game

by North Side Chicago Expatriate Giants Fan on May 15, 2011 9:30 AM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, everyone got to see a game except Ian and Mrs. Rogue

They only had tickets to Sunday’s game. :-(

I’ll post some pics once I lift them off my phone.

The thong is, it happened.
