Four moves Sabes will/should/might make

It's April.  We're four games into the season.  Small sample sizes abound, and we still don't know what from what.  But the 2010 Giants were a very different team in October than they were in April, and one of the tests of a GM is his ability to swing mid-season moves.

1) We're gonna need a shortstop. Miggy's deficiencies are becoming increasingly apparent.  We don't have a lot of trading chits, but maybe we swing something--Runzler to Boston for Scutaro, or something.  Not a trade I love, but with Runzler, you either stretch him out to become a starter, or he's just a LOOGY:  replaceable.

2) Sabes can and will remake the pen again.  Casilla, last year, was barely on the good side of the 'stuff v. command' debate, and while those 3 BB 3 K innings were probably good for us in a cardiovascular sense, he only gets away with it if he's throwing 98.  RamRam and Mota are likewise expendable.  We've got replacements: Kroon, Edlefsen, Vogelsong, Mr. Jen Finch.  There are moves to make.

3) I'm not certain that we will see the final disposition to the Aaron Rowand conundrum.  He's Rich Aurilia ca. 2009; obviously expendable, but inexplicably on the roster 'til the end.  There's no doubt in my mind that teams exist who would love Aaron Rowand--the Phillies come immediately to mind, the Rangers maybe, even the Yanks.  If we DFA the man, there will be takers.  But that's a tough call.  No trade possibilities exist.  None. Not to Philly for Ibanez, not to the Yanks for Brett Gardner, not to Boston for anyone.  In my wildest dreams, Rowand stays pissed at the boos, agrees to play right, gets 300 PA's, and puts up a .270/.330/.490 off the bench.  Or we eat the contract.  Tough call.  My guess is we're stuck with the guy.

4) We could use a lefty bat off the bench. Maybe we do something there.  DeRosa gives us flexibility if Freddy Sanchez breaks down, or in case Panda can't hit lefties. But (I hate myself) here's the move: I do think we all need to take a deep breath and acknowledge the very real possibility that Andres Torres' 2010 was a fluke season.  We'll know by mid-June, of not earlier.  If so, Sabes will deal for a veteran, and we'll all hate it.  I'm thinking something like maybe with Houston for Michael Bourn?  Ouch.  But it's the kind of move Sabes might make.
