It's Offical: the Schedulers Hate San Francisco
The Giants have opened at home in only 5 of the last 21 seasons, the forth fewest in MLB, and the fewest among teams who don't play in cold weather cities or domes. Only the Cubs, White Sox, and Red Sox have fewer home openers over that span. The A's have opened at home in 15 of the last 21 seasons.

I've heard this as well
And because they prefer to close the season at home (apparently you can either open or close at home but not both).

Giants baseball: We're stupid enough to WIN that (TM)
Yeah there was a note on this in either Schulman or Baggs blogs or both recently. The Giants FO actively lobbies MLB to play fewer games at home in April because its colder and suppresses attendance.

this indeed
It’s not an accident, I’m sure they try to avoid rainouts taking away revenue.

It is cold
I was at the first series last year on Tims start and it was absolutely freezing cold. There was a three hour rain delay and the winds blew like Candlestick.
Oscar Wilde may have been a brilliant and talented man, but at the end of the day he was still a cocksucker, just like the Dodgers.

Compared to other baseball towns, not really. Cincinnati, New York, St Louis, Denver, Pittsburgh, Philly, Kansas City, all colder in April. And SF only averages 1.25 inches of rain in April, while Cinci gets 3.96, New York 4.28, St Louis 3.69, etc.; excluding domes, only LA and San Diego are drier in April than the Bay Area. If the Giants are requesting to open on the road due to the weather, MLB should be telling them to shut up and host some teams with actual bad conditions to deal with in April.

Yeah, I don’t get it either. Sure, April is the most likely month for S.F. to get rain (since the percentage chance in other baseball months is somewhere around 0%), and the weather definitely isn’t colder than in Midwest or Northeastern cities. Essentially what they’re saying is that Bay Area fans are wimps about the weather (which is probably true).
That game was awesome.
I will never regret sitting through that delay.

Nah its about being cool
how can I resist a bad pun?
My 2 cents is ont eh fact the league tries to avoid both bay area teams being home at the same time. If the A’s are homes odds are the Giants are a way. That is just he way it is. With April being mostly an division play month and the NL West haveing SD & LA it is bit easy to schedule the Giatns away in April. You look at the AL West you have the Angels and whom else with better weather..the Rangers, M’s?
The Giants are 2010 World Series Champs. … And in other news the forecast calls for a rain of toads, heavy at times, with moderate to strong swarms of locust and a high likelihood of a world quake. Details at 11.
Funny thing is
If they had opened the season at home, the Giants would have played with record temperatures in San Francisco on Thursday and warmer than normal Friday.

About the vs. A's...
I thought they tried to have only one or the other in town for an extended time period.

Go Roger Kieschnick! #4 Giants Prospect for 2010. (#18 for 2011) And son, please continue to break scoreboards on your way to San Francisco.
The Giants might have requested they open on the road, but I doubt they asked for 22 of their first 31 there. That’s pretty rough.

We’ve been to Opening Day, and up until this year Opening Sunday every year for the past 4-5 years and every year there has been some sort of rain event.
