Official Prospective DC-McCoven Meetup Thread

Let the disorganization commence...

Star-divide

There has been some scattered discussion here and here about a possible DC-McCoven meetup this year, so I thought I would create a venue for discussion of said meetup. I believe there was chatter last year as well, but nothing really came of it.

The games are scheduled as follows (at Nationals Park):

April 29th (Friday) - - 7:05 pm

April 30th (Saturday) - - 4:05 pm

May 1st (Sunday) - - 1:35 pm

May 2nd (Monday) - - 7:05 pm

If the rotation stays in the same order as it is now, Bumgarner will open the series, Timmy will pitch on Saturday evening, Sanchez on Sunday afternoon, and Cain on Monday night.

The Nationals have categorized Friday and Saturday's games as "prime games," meaning tickets will be slightly more expensive. Tickets can be had for as little as five or ten dollars at Nationals Park, and the whole pricing scheme in general is pretty fair. I know that different McCoven are coming from different financial situations, so we should obviously try to be sensitive to that. I am a college student, so [insert Ramen joke here].

So, any thoughts from those considering attending one or more of those games? I know that xanthan, Roger, GiantPain, duckcalldan, Andy from DC, and others have voiced support for a meetup over the past few weeks. Let's see if we can maybe get something organized that will make those West Coast snobs green with envy.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I BLEED ORANGE.

West Coast Snobs???

Wait, what if one of us West Coast Snobs wants to meet up as well?

You would be welcome, of course. Wine and cheese optional.

I'd hope so

I’m allergic to cheese, and I haven’t drunk for about 22 years.

I think, when I went to Paris, the Parisians hated me for it.

Either way, I’ll be interested. I’ll be there for all four games, though I’d prefer a get-together on either Saturday or Sunday, particularly Sunday.

I think the best way to do meet ups at Nats Stadium is just to get whatever tix you want and then meet up in Red Loft bar above center field. Its easy, it doesn’t force anybody into any price level that’s uncomfortable, it’s a good view, there are a decent number of seats at the rail, and you’re as close to beer as you want to be. Only problem I can think of is, there are usually so many fans in the crowd wearing Giants gear that it may be difficult to identify ourselves.

This is a good point

I myself will be making an effort to be at all 4 games, so I’d love to meet up with you guys at any and all of them.

I don’t happen to own one myself, but it seems that a prudent way to facilitate would just be for one of us to bring a piece of orange poster board with MCC written on it and placed somewhere along the rail near the bar. If someone could take point on that, it’d be fairly easy, I think.

That said, the important thing should be to determine which game we’d like to meet up at. It strikes me that the weekend games would, of course, be the easier ones to accommodate everyone’s schedule. It also strikes me that the Sunday game will likely be cheaper / more sparsely attended, so that we might be able to navigate easier.

That said, I’d be happy to meet up with any number of you at any of the games. If you’d like to post which games you’ll be at and where, that could be helpful. And someone poke xanthan.

The poster is a great idea, and I am probably going to be at all 4 games as well.

Good idea

I’m currently in the process of trying to extricate myself from a wedding in Georgia that same weekend, so I can’t commit to tickets as of yet, but if I am able to either remove myself from that obligation or perhaps drive down for the wedding and back up for Sunday and Monday’s games then I would do that.

I'm finally proud of the fact that I went to VCU and fittingly it has nothing to do with academics!

It’s an open air bar, so yeah, there’s no reason you couldn’t hang out in the loft area.

Blargh

I wish I could go, especially given that I live right on the Metro. As it is, Richmond (come see the Squirrels!) and then Harrisburg come into town when SF is in DC, and I absolutely can’t get out of work. My wife on the other hand will be going Monday, panda-hatted and Wilson-jerseyed. There is no justice in this world.

by GiantsTribe on Apr 12, 2011 10:32 AM PDT reply actions

Heh

I’ll be in Richmond for Squirrels the week before, and then I’ll stay in the area for the Giants.

It’s almost like I planned it that way…

As a minor league guru I’m not sure you should be allowed to go to the Giants game when the Squirrels are playing 25 miles away. What beat are you on anyway!!!

Actually if the Sunday game is one of those 5 pm starts with a little fudging around the edges you can pull major league/AA doubleheader!

It’s not, trust me, I’d be all over it if that was the case. As it is, the Giants start at 1:30 and Squirrels start at 2.

Really?

I’m a STH for the Squirrels and if anyone’s interested, it might be fun to do a meetup at a Squirrels game too.

WHOOPS

I got confused and thought this was the post game thread. This has nothing to do with the DC meetup, which, incidentally, will be fun.

Sunday works for me too.

How does it feel to know that you’re most likely on Mychael Urban’s “People to Kill” list? I know I’d be honored.

OK, so

This fanpost is about to disappear from the rec list, so let’s try to finalize this:

We will all be at the Sunday afternoon game. We shall meet at the red porch. Someone shall bring a small but noticeable piece of signage (any volunteer for this most difficult of task would be much appreciated). We shall all meet there and be merry.

We’re ridiculously excited!
