Giants Playlist

My 12-year old son and I are heading out to Phoenix next weekend for a little Spring Training. For the trip I thought it would be fun to put together a Giants playlist for my iTunes/iPod. The playlist would mainly be made up of songs we heard at A.T. & T. last season, plus some random stuff from seasons past, like "Smooth" from the ill-fated 2000 season.

I'd love it if I could drop in a few calls from games, like "Swing and a miss! And that's it!", and Flemming's "Goo-OOO-ne!!", and even the always essential "The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!". I don't know if stuff like that can be downloaded on to iTunes though.

Obviously, the playlist will include "Lights" and "I Left My Heart...". I figure I'll add "Song 2" by Blur, that song by Daft Punk, and "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz because they're such an inescapable part of the 2010 Giants soundtrack. I'm also including "Say Hey" (The Willie Mays Song) by the Treniers, because... well, I don't think I even need to explain that one.

But I'd love to hear your ideas. What other songs do you associate with the Giants? I'm mainly looking for songs that were played somewhat regularly over the PA or that relate directly to the Giants. I don't think I want to get too tangential with songs like "One Toke Over the Line" in honor of Timmy, or "Hot Rod Lincoln" by Commander Cody, in honor of Ross. But, hey, I'm open to suggestions.

Ideas? Help me McCoven! You're my only hope!

Off the top of my head

“Who let the dogs out” was played excessively one season, not that I’d recommend that for a play list.

“Stomp to my beat” was one of my favorites and was played during Giants highlight montages.

by nofreetime on Mar 6, 2011 2:43 PM PST reply actions

JS16?

Also, is there any walkup music associated with individual players? I don’t think the Giants really do that. The only thing I can think of is “Smoke on the Water” back in the Robb Nen days.

Thank you Edgar Renteria, for hitting the ball three feet higher.

Yup

They did a good job matching the highlights to the beat

Some good ones

Wilson: “Jump Around”
Cain: “Hillbilly Deluxe”
Lincecum: “Electric Feel”
Torres has a really good spanish song, but I don’t know the name.
Romo: “Fist Pump” by Hardnox. it’s the one he dances to during the fist pump segments

Wow…this is a treasure trove of stuff. I was looking for Giants by the Bay on iTunes, but couldn’t find it. Any idea of where I can get “Giants by the Bay” or “Bye Bye Baby”?

Also, does anyone have an idea of how to download sound bites of game calls?

Thanks again Merope!

thanks Merope for the reminder

“September” is one of my all-time favorite songs, and I knew when I heard it they were playing it just for me. I remember it and other 70s-era brass songs from many family trips to SF, so it was pretty exciting to hear that song while watching the Giants freak out.

Calls

I’ve got the call on Renteria’s home run on MP3 and used it to lead off my baseball mix this year (Chin Music).

I’ve also got a CD called The Giants Greatest Hits which mixes in various Giants songs with background history and specific calls by KNBR at the time. Stuff like Clark’s single up the middle against Mitch Williams, and Joe Morgan’s home run against the Dodgers. Plus “Panda and the Freak” and another song by The Baseball Project. There’s stuff out there!

I’d love to have that. Also, “SWING AND A MISS!! AND THAT’S IT!!”

Great suggestions

Thanks for all the ideas and input, everyone. I really appreciate it!

The one thing that’s really bugging me: I can’t figure out how to get “Bye Bye Baby” into MPEG format. The best I can do so far is get it in my files as an AMR file. I played it on my speakers and recorded it to my cell phone. The emailed the file to myself. But can’t figure how to open it as MPEG and play it on iTunes. “Bye Bye Baby” is one song I really want—even if I need to buy it on CD. Any ideas on this?

I’d throw in Dreams by Journey, and Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer, after they were played at Game 2 with everyone singing along. Magic.

The pre-game postseason song was ‘Run This Town’ by Jay-Z, but it was a mashup with Posthumus Zone. Awesome song, you can find it on iTunes.

I also just love Phish’s ‘Wilson’, because it’d be an awesome walkup song for Brian Wilson, between crowd chanting and the nonsensical lyrics.

They played “Get Up Stand Up” by Bob Marley a lot at the stick during the early 90’s, pretty sure it was during the 7th inning stretch. Also, “Staying Alive” and “Cutie Pie” where Huff and Burrell’s walk up songs last year, that was classic.

Since then, that song’s always made me think of Randy Winn going absolutely berserk for several months. Classy.

Justice – “Genesis” Played in the later innings for Posey ABs; the crowd goes apeshit.
Far East Movement – “Like a G-Man” (DJ E-Rock Giants remix). I don’t even really like the original , but this one is fun.

Hm. While scrolling through my own playlist, it appears I just have a bunch of songs that remind of the Giants that probably wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense to anyone else. I won’t list the more embarrassing ones but Smashing Pumpkins “Tonight, Tonight” and Tom Petty “The Waiting” are nice, and kinda make sense sorta?

OK fine one embarrassing one: Janet Jackson – “Nasty” (c’mon! for the bullpen!)

Nate woulda had that.

Yeah you can get calls on your I-Pod

If you wanted, say, Flem’s voice crack on Rent’s HR, find a video of it on Youtube like this.

Once you have that, go to this website (ListentoYoutube.com) and paste the Youtube URL into the box. It will convert the audio from the video into an MP3, which will then be put on your default music player (probably I Tunes). I have used this site many times, and it works fine.
