I was outraged last year when they got their new contracts. For some reason, this latest extension doesn’t bother me.

Buster Posey: Let's enjoy him before he goes to the Yankees because he wants to win the World Series. Wait, what???

Still the master of decontextualizing, I am ambivalent about this news. Brian Sabean and Bruce Bochy still remain guys who think Jose Guillen would be a good addition during the pennant drive.

Doth I hear the cries of victory? Perchance hath the men of stature brought a trophy of war? Indeed, after a long and grueling siege in the land of Texas, mine lads return to their native land of San Francisco with the long-coveted spoils of victory. Come, drink and be merry, tonight we celebrate the world fucking champions.

It bothers me.

Well, I guess we can blame Cody Ross and Jose Guillen’s wife for the Bochy extension (which, of course, doesn’t put a dent into Ross’ good will from the same production). I’ll never doubt that the Giants won in spite of Bochy, not because of him. He cost them upwards of five games at least during the season. He would have gladly kept Guillen in RF and Ross on the bench had the “injury” [steroids bust?] not occurred. It wasn’t that he made bad moves that happened to work in the playoffs (most of his bad moves were during the season). Rather, his hand was forced in the playoffs, much like it was when he finally caved in to let Posey play during the year. I knew we’d be stuck with him in 2011, but now 2012, too. I guess Belt can “develope” if he hits his way into the line up like Posey did. Otherwise, so much for getting young before 2012. Damn.

The speculation is type of “injury” not the “injury” itself.

Also:

Rather, his hand was forced in the playoffs, much like it was when he finally caved in to let Posey play during the year

This is just pure BS. You’d have an argument if you phrased it “he finally caved in to let Posey catch and bench Molina”, but in terms of playing time, once Posey was called up he started in every Giants game for 17 straight games. It was Sabean you should be criticizing for not calling him up sooner.

But this is just once again, revisionist history from a MCC’er to spin an argument against Bochy. Get your facts straight.

Fact check: You are talking about May 29 –June 15 , correct ?

Starting C in those 17 games:

Molinia 13
Whiteside 4
Buster 1

Basically Huff was shifted to LF. If you are using this time to prove the brilance that is Big Head you are backing 2 points here:

1) Molinia ( 644 OPS tell July 1) & Whiteside ( with his mighty hot June with 756 OPS) have acceptable production for a LF.

2) Yet to show were an over 30 position player lost playing time because Buster was brought up.

In fact I don’t see Buster’s second start at C tell June 26 and the 3rd happens once Molinia is traded. Care to explain how that is NOT the front office Big Head to play Buster at C?

And the point here is Bochy isn’t against rookies or young players. He’s against unproven players who don’t have talent. Freddie Lew, Frandsen, John Bowker, etc…

However, the unproven players who DO have talent, Bochy has played them from the get go. Posey, Sandoval.

Witty retorts FTW

For the record, I also feel like you’re being somewhat unfair to Bochy… I doubt he cost the team 5 reg. season wins and he outmanaged everyone he was up against in the playoffs. And when I think back to critical, turning-point games of 2011, the one where Bochy capitalized on Mattingly’s gaffe is right up near the top.

I yawned because YOUR counter argument was tired. I spent hours writing about the Bochy errs as they were happening last season. Again, I have no doubt. I was not trying to convince you or anyone else, just expressing my opinion, which you felt compelled to label me a “lunatic fan” using revisionist history for not preemptively noting specific young players Bochy held back (like Victorino – SD fans warned us about his love of vets) or that the Posey reference was toward Bochy’s stated belief/position that Buster would be sent back to AAA soon after he was brought up, which Buster forced his hand against.

I have been writing for years now that Bochy is an AVERAGE manager. He does some things well, others not so well. A vet laden team fits him, developing youth does not (please don’t argue as many do that “developing” is for the minors). I had no problem giving him an encore year with his vets, but a second year when you can wait a year before granting the option bothers me.

I state an opinion and get attacked with attempts to belittle with your own bits of cherry picked information and blanket accusations of revisionism.. How fitting from an “MCC’er.”

That’s not a position I had ever heard Bochy express. Can you support these claims?

Go back to the week of and after Buster was brought up and read Bochy’s quotes.

Admittedly feeling defensive after Busta, “Can you support these claims?” sure read like doubt.

Sorry if I am not up for going back through the archives. Multiple times, Bochy noted how hot Buster was but then noted the probability it would not last and he might need more time in AAA. There was more, comments about needing to learn more about catching, coupled with not letting him catch, that had a return trip to AAA set up as soon as his bat cooled off, which it did not.

It was brought up by Baggs and discussed ad nauseum in the comment sections. It isn’t hard for me to believe people did not hear about it as most were focusing on his numbers being so good rather than questioning why he was at first when Bengie was so fucking horrible for so long.

do you like turtles?

All the track record shows is the only way a washed up vet is sat in Bochey club house for a another player under 30 is if …
 1) Big Head Has no other choice or
2) That other choice is 30 year or older himself.

So the prove 644 OPS is good enough for you to keep getting a starting job? Because that is exactly what Molinia had and exactly you what kept being fed large ammounts of playing time by the Brillant Big Head in June.

Funny thing is even Nate hit better than that. You “hero” Lewis in his terrible ’09 managed a 738 OPS.

Sabean and Bochy’s veteran love is all irrelevant now, because all the young players on the Giants’ roster are integral parts of the team and nobody thinks they are being stunted by all the veterans. Does anybody think that the Giants are suffering because Huff is blocking Ishi and Burrell and Ross are blocking Nate? There’s only one young stud left who’s near ready, and that’s Brandon Belt, and you can see from all their comments and the fact that they only offered Burrell one million dollars, that they’re fully prepared to move him into the lineup.

The Burrell contract is hopeful

Because is does show the front office might have finnaly understood Bochey’s limitations and acting to limit them. This is good thing.
