How far should this list go?

I vote for this option as long as Brute and Roger and Fla and all those who actually know something about these guys promise to keep filling the rest of us in. We’re already into the zone of “players I’ve just barely heard of.”

I also think we should start speeding things up though. 24-36 hours per prospect should be long enough at this point – unless there’s a runoff.

Yeah

I’m trying to keep it to 24 hours unless it’s reasonably close. 36 hours ain’t going to happen because I’m sleeping and, honestly, it’s easiest to put polls up at lunch on work days.

  1. would seem appropriate

I'm a Giants Fan, but I'll always be rooting for Matt Downs
Where is Dan Burkhart going to play ?

Crap..freaking auto format

That's a dangerous request...

I know people mock SFDugout for having a premium section, but we do have pretty good scouting reports of our Top 50.

I don’t know if I should be the cow that gives away milk for free…

LOL

We’ll have to redo it midway through when we add a bunch of draft picks.

Tangetially related to this comment, I was flipping through the Baseball Almanac at Barnes and Noble today, and came across a page on Major League Debuts in 2010, and checking the Giants, found that Darren Ford was the only player in their system who made his major league debut last year. Didn’t they have like 11 or 12 players make their debut (just as quickly followed by “Final Game” in several cases, like the immortal hitting rabbi Brian Horwitz) in 2008? Just another prism through which to view the crazy leap taken in two years.

Willoughby

Seemed to have a nice debut.

Quietly hoping Brandon Belt develops into John Olerud, circa 1993.

Carlos Willoughby belongs now or soon

in Arizona Rookie, about to turn 20, he hits 295 372 432, that’s OPS 804. Steals 23, CS 4
switch hitter, BB’d 10% of the time, K’d about twice that.
second baseman with speed and pop.

I've heard of the players faking their ages, but not the fans faking it
…about to turn 20…

I agree that he belongs in the conversation now, but let’s get his age straight. Carlos the Jackal was born on November 12, 1988. He was 21 all last season, and will be 22..5 when the season starts this year. He was slightly old for the AZL, and I’d like to see the Giants start to challenge him by promoting him quicker in the future.

That’s too old (in the AZL) for me. Especially when there are Verdugos, Burkharts and Tanners still on the list. He needs to pushed and prove himself at a higher level.

He’s another of that group that is hard to rate highly now but I’d really like to see take a huge leap in 2011.

He’s a solid hitter and a catcher.

Still going with Roibal

Does anybody know what his signing bonus was? All I could find was this SFDugout article:

“No details about the contract or bonus were released, but the Herald’s source indicated that Roibal’s signing bonus is ‘more than decent for the times.’ Recent Cuban signees include the $30 million pitcher Aroldis Chapman with the Reds, $10 million for shortstop Adeinys Hechevarria from Toronto, $7 million from the Royals for pitcher Noel Arguelles, and $3.75 million from Tampa Bay for outfielder Leslie Anderson.”

They make it sound like he might’ve cost us a pretty penny…

It’s nearly impossible to get a hard answer from anyone on stuff like that, but the $450K is closer to what I’ve heard than any seven-digit number.

In that case

I know he’s old, but he did OPS .900 last year in the minors while playing reportedly decent defense. I think he could slip into my top 30.

Definitely misses bats. Now if he can just find a way to stop missing the strike zone as well, he’ll definitely be an interesting arm.

Ed Concepcion
Aaron King
Edwin Escobar
Jose Valdez

Others too, but I’m feeling lazy

Has to be Burkhart for me

/ looks around for Lyle and Fla-Giant.
This article ranked him in the top 30 picks of all College Catchers in the draft.

26. Ohio State JR C Dan Burkhart

Despite being a legitimate pro prospect in his own right, his biggest claim to fame may be convincing best friend and potential first rounder Alex Wimmers to join him for three years in Columbus. Burkhart is yet another good defensive catcher with a good batting eye and a questionable power ceiling. His scouting reports and his numbers come very close to Kevan Smith’s, but Burkhart’s higher probability of contributing gives him the edge over Smith’s higher upside. Burkhart also receives high marks for being one of the few catchers in the college game trusted to call his own pitches.

Chosen in the 10th round of 2010, Burkhart, is a 5-11, 205-pound catcher out of Ohio State who hit .354 with 15 doubles and 29 RBIs in his last NCAA season. He also threw out 22 of 28 would-be base stealers and was a second-team, preseason All-American by the NCBWA. Here is a link to a short MLB scouting video. Burkhart plays above average defense, was one of the few college catchers allowed to call his own game, and hits well though is a little light on power.

Jump on the Burkhart Bandwagon, I’m driving.

I'm a Giants Fan, but I'll always be rooting for Matt Downs
