Lefty? Young? Strikes fools out? Great arm? Big signing bonus & scouting track record?
Check. Check. Check. Check. And check.
It’s Escobar time…
Hector Sanchez: Underrated. Fighting body bias since the 2009 off season. I still love you, son, even if you're fat.
I’ve voted for Escobar the last 5 slots, but now that Edlefson and Quinowski are on the list he misses out. Edlefson should be a September call up at the very least.

I’ve heard that about Edlefson for about 3 years now…

Really?
I don’t think he was even on the 40 man until last year.

They're Giants
You hate them.

What do you mean "these" people?
Aaron King, please pitch better.

Ok, people, I understand Sundrendy Windster has an awesome name, but that’s no reason to be giving him your votes.

Agreed I mean a 21 y/o in AZL and IIRC he's already limited to

But his name is AWESOME!

If he hasn’t been voted onto the list by #44, I’m giving it to him automatically. Every list needs a name like that on it.

Can I vote for Sequoyah Trueblood Stonecipher at #44 even though he’s in the Marlin’s system?

I'll allow it

This is where my enthusiasm runs out. I went with Craig Westcott, mostly as an “attaboy” for his 2010.

Yeah, I'm completely lost at this point
Almost there though.

I can see lots of guys you make cases for, but there’s such a wild combination of “not a sliver of difference between them” and “apples to oranges” that trying to distinguish between them really does become moot pretty quickly.
I will say that the vote tally looks pretty rationale to me: two guys who are on the verge of major league LOOGY-dom, two young arms with upside, and the highest drafted player left on the board are all out in the lead, with the system’s best name close behind. That all seems to make sense.

I'm still voting Kendry Flores
But at this point of the list, it’s probably no big deal for people to vote for Sundrendy – just for the name

Escobar WHIP over 1.6
and over 65 innings in low A. Hittable.
former adoptive papa of "Geno" Eugenio Velez, Antoan Richardson, and Adam Wittler--
65 innings is a pretty worthless indicator for something like that
Juan "Doesn't Cheat The Game" Perez, future CF for the World Champion San Francisco Giants.
We’re at #39 in a weak system — I’m guessing we’re not going to find any unhittable folks down here. We’re looking for projection.
I’ve been kind of flipping back and forth between Escobar and Flores the last couple rounds, but I can’t entirely shake the feeling that those numbers I looked at last Fall should be telling me that Villegas being terrible in the Sally at 19 is a better indicator of future success than anybody else being successful in the NWL or AZL, especially those (like Willoughby or Windster or Jurica) who were playing in those leagues at 20+.

being terrible indicates success?
because scouts thought he could play that level and not be terrible? Let’s face it, being terrible disappointed some people.

No being young indicates success despite being terrible. I’ll save you from reading the entire post, but the thumbnail sketch is that being a teenager in the Sally, even a bad teenager, has historically been a better indicator of future success than has being one of the league’s top performers and over 20.
MY DAD WAS WRONG!
MY BOY NEEDS TO THROW HARDER!
Surely few of those terrible teenagers were quite as terrible as Villegas, though. You don’t see a 458 OPS every day. And for a teenager he was pretty old — turned 20 just as the season ended.
Despite the horrible numbers, I don’t think Villegas lost any ground as a prospect this season; but we only had him ranked around #45 last year.
That said, ranking Willoughby, two years older and playing two levels lower, ahead of Villegas seems like a clear mistake, no matter how great the difference in their stats.
Yeah I’d agree with pretty much all of that. a .458 OPS is quite an achievement. Even Carlos Lee managed a .630 (although he had put up a rather amazing .326 OPS in rookie ball at 18). But the comparison with Willoughby was really closer to my point.
MY DAD WAS WRONG!
MY BOY NEEDS TO THROW HARDER!
A completely unfair comparison but
In 2010: Ydwin had a .458 OPS. Brandon Belt had a .455 OBP

And actually, just doing a quick flip through, I’m not finding anybody with OPS even under the .600 level. Pablo had a disastrous year and he put up a .630 OPS. Even Cesar Izturis managed a .603 (at age 18). Villegas really was in his own world of overmatched last season. So I’m glad I didn’t vote for him here after all. As I said the other day about Noonan, he’s not only merely bad, he’s really most sincerely bad.
MY DAD WAS WRONG!
MY BOY NEEDS TO THROW HARDER!
He also K'd a batter per inning as an 18 y/o
I see him as having the most upside at this point.
