I voted for Flores and expect to keep doing so till we stop.

I got totally turned around in my thinking during that last post. Now I think I should just vote pitchers the rest of the way. Escobar, Flores, Dunnington, heck I’ll write in Paniagua if I have to (not Graham though; don’t see much to like there).

Yeah, I liked Graham as a lottery-ticket pick a year ago, but you can’t keep clutching your lottery tickets that didn’t hit.

Meanwhile, I got turned around in my thinking on Jurica by considering sample sizes, particularly in comparison to Ryan Cavan. Jurica’s rotten 62-game showing at S-K isn’t much to judge him on, but I bet that’s a lot more games than whichever scout stumped for him ever saw him play at K-State. So I think we have to assume that the predraft consensus was probably correct, and he really is a 10-12th round talent.

It’s way too early to give up on Graham. He’ll be 21 this year. We knew he was raw, but we also know that he has the capacity to throw in the mid to upper 90s, even if he hasn’t done so in the past 2 years. You can’t teach that kind of velocity.

That said, I agree that pitching should rule the day for the next few picks: Escobar, Flores, Dunnington, Graham for me.

Hector Sanchez: Underrated. Fighting body bias since the 2009 off season. I still love you, son, even if you're fat.

Has he done that since his junior year in HS, though? Seems like that’s all a sporadic pitch here or there; there’s nothing to suggest that that’s something he can pitch in that area regularly. And that’s without the control issues. It just sounds to me like he doesn’t have the athleticism necessary to develop pitching mechanics.

To paraphrase Felipe Alou

“You oly have to see it once to know it’s there”. That said I don’t think Graham belongs in the top 44. I have him and Aaron King both at the back of the top 60 based solely on the fact that they had some good scouting reports

The other pitcher that I have in the Graham/King grouping would be Edward Concepcion.

Although at least King strikes people out. For all the reports of his velocity, Concepcion’s doesn’t have a particularly notable history of that.

Who do I vote for now ? Throws coin in the air and it lands on Flores.

I'm a Giants Fan, but I'll always be rooting for Matt Downs

I just realized

we’ve run off 5 hitters in a row here. Besides Willoughby, I don’t know if there’s another positional guy that should go before #45 or so

I can't think of who else would start there

The only person I can think of would be Julio Izturis, although he has the definition of an empty BA. Unless they want a Jurica-Villegas middle infield combo

Julio Izturis, although he has the definition of an empty BA

Why do you say that? Izturis primary feature offensively has always been a good walk rate (12% in 5 seasons with a .115 Iso). Last year was far away his worst in that respect, which raises the concern that he can’t keep it up against better pitching, but his history is low ba with good obp.

I was just going off last year's stats

Which was like .283/.316/.321 or something like that

Ah. His career minor league line is .267/.382/.309.

As a 16 year old in the DSL he hit .214/.355/.245. I used to joke he really was trying to walk his way off the island.

Hmm. I'm guessing the Giants will send him to Augusta next year

I’m hoping one of him/Villegas/Willoughby (maybe Jurica) do something next year

Willoughby.

Quietly hoping Brandon Belt develops into John Olerud, circa 1993.

Escobar

Being left handed is worth a considerable amount, and the K’s are nice too, however, the walks need to come down considerably, but I don’t expect the BABIP of .335+ in both years to hold up as he climbs the ranks and has better defenses playing behind him.

In case you're wondering, I'm working out and plan to be in the best shape of my life come spring.
