Giants release 7 minor league veterans

In an obvious attempt to clear the decks for the newly signed draftees and non-drafted free agents, the Giants announced that they are cutting ties with 7 veterans of their minor league system.

Here's the official announcement:

San Francisco Giants
Signed:  RHP Guillermo Mota
Released:  RHP Jason Jarvis, C Jesse Shriner, 1B Carlos Quintana, 3B Josh Lopez, 3B Kyle Mach, OF Jose Medina, OF Nickolas Nordgren

A sad day for them, but hopefully some will be able to latch on with another team.  No big surprises here, because none of them really made a good impression in the lower levels of the minors. Jarvis seemed to be the most promising, and always had a good K/9 and decent BB/9, but was constantly dealing with arm issues.  Nordgren didn't get much of a shot - he was only just signed in August and got in only a few games with Scottsdale in the AZ Rookie League.
