That's two team controlled years, which would end up costing 16-20 each anyway after arbitration, and 6 years of his prime free-agency years. To big of a risk? Perhaps, but the team should have thought about that before eschewing any kind of offense and deciding that pitching was where the money is going to go. If pitching is what the next decade is going to be made of, and it may as well have a face that already sells t-shirts. Even if we lost 1-2 years to injury, that would be 6 years of a top-of-the-staff kind of starter, locked in.
Is Timmy worth 8 years @ $160 million? YES!
This is Timmy's opening offer. If giants only manage to get it down to 8 year deal, with the 8th year having an 10 Million buy out, and I'd be happy as a pig in shit. Seriously. Spend the 26 Million we didn't spend on Tranny, and get Timmy locked down...Spend that rainy day fund... because rainy days are here.... Put up or shut up.
Oh, and get Cain on a similar 7 year, 18 per year style deal. (His remaining Team controlled year, plus 6) DO IT. If I have to suffer through crappy-to-mediocre offense, I don't ever want to worry about pitching again. Seriously. And if this means we can't afford a broken down old catcher named buster in four years, here's me not giving a damn.
Pitching makes dynasties. I want one that makes the 90's ATL look mediocre.
