Fuck this offseason

hahahahahahahahahahahahaha that's all it would have taken to get Jed Lowrie?
hahahahahahahahahaahhahahahaa
"What’s that, Buster? You asked for a bicycle? Well, sorry. Santa brought butt floss instead."
No, he was too busy snagging Affeldt for $5 million
and trying to sell Matt Cain and Timmy on Cabrera and Pagan, instead of Beltran and Furcal.
Responsible for the last great homegrown Giants team.
Rafael Furcal just signed for two years, $14 M with St. Louis. Do you seriously think the Giants should have tried to give even more money and/or years to a shortstop on the wrong side of 30 who can barely stay on the field? He’s played in more than 100 games once in the past four years.

I'm reminded our "trade chip" reliever was RamRam...
He of the poor prior Boston performance. If indeed the sox have been aiming their MIF depth for the best reliever possible all along, I don’t think we should’ve come close to offering a quality arm such as Melancon. Looking at his peripherals, he looks like a good 8th-inning set-up man at the least. The starter thrown in has some real upside too.
Now, I’m going to torture myself that Santiago Casilla for Lowrie straight up should have happened.
Honest question, would you have traded Romo for Lowrie-Weiland?

I find the excessive Lowrie love around here confusing, but I’m shocked that’s all it took to get him. If all it would take was Ramon Ramirez, why the hell not?
UPSIDE
Lowrie’s done a pretty good job tearing up the minors, and has a .320 wOBA in parts of four seasons (presumably if he stopped getting jerked up and down and got healthy he’d be quite a bit better, particularly with his MiLB record). He can play shortstop acceptably (actually above-average UZR for his career, but it’s only 500 innings or so). He’s under team control through 2014. There’s a lot to like there, particularly for a team like the Giants that has nothing to lose by pinning all their 2012 SS hopes on him. The backup plan would be Crawford, and as that’s the primary plan (not that I disagree) now, it’s clearly a superior option.

“Tearing up the minors” is overly generous. Certainly his 2007 split between AA and AAA is very impressive. But his 2006 and 2008 were less so. His major league 91 wRC+ isn’t bad for a SS, but it’s not great either, and at 28 and with the injuries piled up, I don’t see any reason to expect anything better.
I didn’t realize his UZR numbers were positive (SSS, of course). That’s interesting. What I’ve heard from Boston is that he’s below average at short.
I agree that he’d be preferable to Crawford.

I saw this
Got pretty pissed. Even after we traded Ramirez, presumably the Sox could keep Weiland and take a slightly worse reliever? Or two? Casilla+Affeldt?
After weeks of “we’re not dealing him” they trade one of their better chips for Melancon? I…just…blurgh.
