Non-Tendered FA's I'd like to see the Giants invite to Arizona
It's a shorter list than I imagined, and maybe I've been huffing gas fumes, but I would like to see the Giants offer Hong-Chih Kuo & Jeremy Hermida spring training invitations. Neither of these two seem to have much other big league options, and Kuo seems to be badly in need of some Rags tutoring. As for Hermida, he is left handed so that's a strike against him, but at one point he was a considered a top prospect. So there you have two potential reclamation projects for Sabean to do some tire kicking, at the low low price of a southwest $29 ding fare. What say you McCoven?

Ryan Theroit
I love him because my dad watched the world series with me and loved the guy because he read his last name as “The Riot” and then he got an RBI vs. Texas. He only had two all series and hit like he was swinging soggy diapers, so it seemed like a pretty awesome coincidence.
Bring The Riot to SF.
Better bat than Burriss for sure. Not as much range, but he’s a feisty cajun. For some reason I like The Riot as well.
He's not Manny Burriss
which in terms of the Giants 2012 25man is a huge check in his favor.
And “The Riot.” I love that.
Ronny Paulino might also be interesting, but word is he’s a shitty defensive C. I’m fine with Stew/Posey for now. Stew has everything you want in a backup defensively, although his bat is awful even though he walks.
But depending on how often they play Posey at C, I think there is a pretty good chance they will bring Hector up sometime after July or August. The Giants like to rush their prospects and then not start them.

Stewart WAR
Stew is good enough defensively to have achieved a .6 WAR (Baseball Ref) last year in a third of a season or less. Were he to be able to keep that up for a full season, he would be up to minimal level as a starting catcher, not a backup.
If Freddy Goes Down
Or Crawford plays the way so many expect him to, I think Theriot can be a pretty nice cheap backup plan. He doesn’t have the range of Burriss, but he can hit about as well as recently departed Keppinger (a little more OBP, less slugging, but really not much), and he’s scrappy and feisty. Plus we’d have the reunion, and an all-Cajun backup IF would be awesome. Throw in Wilson with the Hobbit and the Riot and we’ve got 3 LSU Tigers. Most important he’s that right handed bat so we can platoon the hell out of Sanchez/Crawford with Fonty/Theriot. The hitting, I don’t think many fans are confident about with Burriss. Is he super duper awesome? Nope, he’s The Riot. Feisty. Good backup player, like Fonty, at the right price.
Completely Agree
Frankly, he is the only one I have any interest in.

Me too
He’s a guy I really want.

Great fanpost!
I second Ronny Paulino. I’d love to see Kiko Calero, Fred Lewis (we could use OF depth), Nick Johnson and Ishikawa (why not? PHs and step in for injury)
Micah Owings would bring some nice punch to the bench, but I imagine he’ll try to be at least guaranteed a 5th starter spot.
Chris Coghlan is someone I’ve always liked, with some pop and athleticism. He could backup in the OF and even backup at 2B, plus be okay speed off the bench. All depends on the Marlins releasing/trading him, and his health.
Would it be worth checking on Paul Janish? He’s a righty SS, albeit a poor hitter and just averagish fielder.

J.D. Drew, pretty please

If we can get Drew on a minor league deal
I will be absolutely fucking ecstatic. He is so undervalued right now.

Reds Got Brackman
Booo! I think that could have been a very good signing. Trying to find out if the Marlins tendered a contract to Volstad, he’s not reported in either yet. I think he could be a nice Zito bomb insurance policy.
I would support tire kicking on these 2 guys. Hermida seems like a less reliable Nate with maybe a bit higher offensive upside. Kuo was an all-star 2 years ago. I think they both will have potential suitors.
In an environment where Andrew Brackman’s getting a major league deal, it’s hard to imagine Kuo lacking for interest.
MY DAD WAS WRONG!
MY BOY NEEDS TO THROW HARDER!
I’ll second Roger’s suggestion of a day or two ago – Clay Hensley (late of the Marlins) would be an intreresting reliever to take a chance on.
One thing to remember, though, is that these guys are now free agents and most of them want only to sign with a team that will give them major league contract. Barring that, they’ll be looking for a minor league contract and a spot on a teams ST roster that would give them the best shot to earn a 25 man spot by the end of ST.

Yeah
Kuo’s getting a guaranteed ML contract. Not for much, but he will be on the 25 man for some team, likely one looking to flip him at the deadline.

ST invites/minor league deals
Ronny Paulino (both)
Luke Scott (both)
There are a couple other guys who could be mildly interesting, but those are two good names.

A sleeper
Dan Cortes. He was non tendered by the Mariners but throws in the mid to high 90’s. He does have some trouble with walks but he has solid upside and shouldn’t need more than a MiWIST deal
