Giants trade Jonathan Sanchez to Royals for Melky Cabrera

Per Twitter. First Reaction - wTF? Cabrera is the typical one-shot pony, but Sabean can't seriously believe he can play CF in AT&T, can he?

great another 4th outfielder

Also apparently the deal included Ryan Verdugo, one of our better pitching prospect at this point.

Sanchez and Verdugo?

Yeah, so, um…

Cool, I guess.

Really, thats your CF solution

Hello Rowand minus the glove (and the character). Pac Bell is going to destroy his offensive production and he is going to be a sulking, insolent little prick just like when he was a yankee. Is this what the giants were missing last year, a .275 hitter with minimal pop and average speed? great work.

maybe he can produce the one good year that Rowand had before he was a giant.

Cabrera is a lifetime 729 OPS with no success in the N.L. I don’t like giving
up a potential really good starter for a guy who could be obtained on the cheap
via free agency with another name. I see him as a downgrade for fielding in
center. He may be cheaper than Sanchez, but now who is our fifth starter?
Zito? There goes an automatic loss every fifth day. Sanchez may have had
his problems, but Vogelsong, a righty did not find his way until is 33 year old
season. Sanchez will be 29, and has had some decent seasons wracked
up. Now we need a fifth starter. Maybe they thought Sanchez was an injury
away from surgery. I think you have to be patient with a guy like Sanchez.
If Sanchez, and Cabrera both meet their potentials, Kansas City got a steal.

I’m just hoping for something on par with Rowand’s first two years in orange and black, or Ross’s 2011.

Cabrera

Is a poor mans Marvin Bernard and another hitter who is afraid of ball four. Switching him for Torres will make the giants worse – even if Torres repeats 2011. The loss in defense and walks will offset any other gain.
