I figure this deserved its own thread for those who don't read the main thread.
If Pablo, Belt, Posey, Cabrera and Huff all meet or exceed their ZiPS, the Giants will have 5 starters above average.
With Schierholtz at 99 OPS+, that's 6 very good players. Sure the D in CF will suck with Melky, but I could live with it. That would leave SS and 2B as the big holes. Franchez, Fonty, and Kepp all project to 83-86 OPS+, and Crawford/Adrianza sit at 70. Surprisingly Conor Gillespie clocks in at 90 OPS+. Can he play 2B? Even after considering Stewart, Torres, and unknown OF'er getting PA's as backups, the offense, as projected, with Belt playing fulltime would be above average. Sign a Beltran/Willingham/Cuddyer, and it might almost look respectable.
Pitching: OMG Romo. Bumgarner projection makes me sad. Vogelsong projection thinks last year was semi-fluky. But even still, with a rotation of Timmy, Matty, Bummy, Vogie, and Zito, as projected, it would still be almost an elite pitching staff. Toss in the amazing bullpen, and the pitching looks very strong. Surkamp projection would be fantastic if it came to pass. Definitely a week at #7 starter, though... time to sign some decent NRI's.
