Lincecum, Cain, Bumgarner, Vogelsong all get CY votes

Not sure the last time four guys on the same team all received votes, but that's pretty cool.  Or as Jayson Stark said on twitter: "After all that talk about the Phillies' historic rotation, it was the Giants who had 4 starters who got Cy Young votes. That ever happened?"

Star-divide

Here's the official breakdown of voting and points:

Pitcher, Team

1st2nd3rd4th5thPoints
Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers 27 3 2 207
Roy Halladay, Philadelphia Phillies 4 21 7 133
Cliff Lee, Philadelphia Phillies 5 17 9 1 90
Ian Kennedy, Arizona Diamondbacks 1 3 6 18 3 76
Cole Hamels, Philadelphia Phillies 2 13 17
Tim Lincecum, San Francisco Giants 1 5 7
Yovani Gallardo, Milwaukee Brewers 1 3 5
Matt Cain, San Francisco Giants 1 1 3
John Axford, Milwaukee Brewers 2 2
Craig Kimbrel, Atlanta Braves 2 2
Madison Bumgarner, San Francisco Giants 1 1
Ryan Vogelsong, San Francisco Giants 1

Also, if you're curious where the votes for out guys came from, Vogelsong's fifth place vote came from Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald.  Bumgarner received his vote from Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis PD.  Keith Law revealed that Matt Cain was his fourth place vote.  Also, John Shea had Lincecum 5th.

I can understand Halladay getting four 1st place votes (I’m surprised he didn’t get a few more). But Ian Kennedy? Really? His peripherals were so far below Kershaw and Halladay. Must have been the D-backs beat writer. Cronyism is alive and well.

1986 NYMets

Gooden, Darling, Ojeda, Fernandez all had Cy votes. And that was when you could only pick a top-three.

Bumgarner should have finished much higher

He was the Giants’ WAR leader (tied with Sandoval) and the 4th most valuable pitcher in the NL (Cain was 5th, Tim 11th).

And this is using fWAR which doesn’t account for Matt Cain’s Caininess!

As a giant fan, and dodger hater, I must say that Kershaw's performance vs. Lincecum alone should have gotten him the unanimous first place vote.

The guy lead in ERA, K’s and tied for the lead in wins. Why would anyone else get first place votes? Complete games? OK HOliday wins the complete games award.

see... i am of the opposite opinion

Kershaw probably should have won anyways, but it should have been a lot closer voting.

The fact that he got to face the giants putrid offense SIX TIMES this year is not equivalent to a pitcher having to face any decent offense.

FIVE of his 21 wins were against the giants. FIVE!!! that’s nearly 25% That is truly ridiculous.

This.

As much as I hate to pull the “easier competition” card, he really did face much easier competition. And Halladay pitched half his games in the Phillies’ Tee ball yard

It’s the same argument as Verlander v. Shields. Shields faced the NYY/Boston a fairly stunning 12 times this year and had fantastic numbers against them overall.

If memory serves me correctly 4 of those 5 wins were against Lincecum. No matter what offence the Giants are trotting out, that is hard to do.

Kershaw had higher counts in the good categories, but the bad ones too. Halladay allowed fewer home runs and walks.

I’m guessing the one first place vote for Ian Kennedy was from the Arizona Republic.

Still the father of two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum.
