Boyle is more common (but not as common as Thornton), but you have the benefit of knowing he is like 78% likely to be an all-star again.

True.

From ESPN

NEW YORK — Television ratings for this year’s World Series equaled the lowest ever.
The San Francisco Giants’ five-game victory over the Texas Rangers averaged an 8.4 rating and 14 share. That matches the record low of the 2008 Phillies-Rays World Series, which also went five games, with the decisive game suspended and completed two days later because of rain.
The average rating was down 28 percent from the 11.7/19 for last year’s Yankees-Phillies series.
The Giants’ 3-1 win Monday night on Fox earned an 8.8/14.
San Francisco averaged a 35.3/61 for the series, while Dallas had a 30.9/48.
The series averaged 14.3 million viewers, up 5 percent from 2008, when the country had fewer homes with televisions.
Game 5 drew 15.0 million viewers to beat “Monday Night Football.” The Indianapolis Colts’ 30-17 victory over the Houston Texans on ESPN had 11.9 million viewers.
Ratings represent the percentage of all homes with TVs tuned into a program. Shares represent the percentage of all homes with TVs in use at the time.

Are those stores filled with children or are they mostly parents buying stuff for their kids? Disney gear isn’t cheap so it would seem more like an adult store than a toy store. But I guess I’ve never been in one.

this one is set up kinda like a library, there’s a kid area with tables with some interactive toys and comfy seating and a screen that shows snipits of Disney movies (duh) so kids can kind of chill there while their parents shop. I also think it’s size (and maybe location too) keep it from getting overwhelmed. But there’s loads to do and see, there are images projected on the trees and walls as little surprises that keep it “magical” and it has hardwood flooring and a sparkly dark blue “pathway” and I think that also keeps kids from acting a fool since it’s so nice. Other stores are pretty awful, no personality, no theming, just BUY OUR STUFF! LOL
good luck with your training/studying! :)

From a TV Critic who puts its perfectly
Is the show as fresh as it was in season 2? Of course not. Is it as funny as it was in season 4? Nope. Have there been dark periods? Absolutely. Has it repeated every story it’s ever told at least three times? Practically. But here’s the thing: “The Simpsons” is still capable of being funny, and moving, and of making me and many other people happy that it still exists and is still producing new episodes. I thought last season was pretty darned strong all-around, and when I wrote a few weeks ago that it was arguably the show’s best season in many years, a number of readers piped in to say that they liked it, too, but would make that argument for season 20, or…

but the 2nd bunt, when its obvious you’re taking the bat out of Pujols’ hand that was wrong. Everyone could see Berkman didn’t stand a chance against Halladay before he even came to the plate.

BREAKING NEWS:

ESPN reporting that former MLB CF Aaron Rowand is on his way to Philly to be a potential donor candidate for Phillies’ 1B Ryan Howard’s strained suck muscle. Howard injured his Suck muscle on the final play of Philadelphia’s 1-0 loss to the Cardinals, eliminating them from the postseason on Friday night.

Yep.

Cards won in 2006, lost in 2004, 1987, and 1985.
Tigers last made it in 2006, last won in 1984.
Brewers last (and only) made it in 1982 (in the AL) and didn’t make the playoffs again until 2008.
Rangers, lost last year, obviously. They were founded in 1961 as the Washington Senators (part deux) and didn’t win their division until 1996 (though they were in first at the 1994 strike). They were fail for a long, long time.

I was just thinking about this.

I want Brewers/Tigers in the Series, but if I can’t have that, my priority for alternative matchups goes something like:

Brewers/Rangers (might as well have a first-time winner)
Cards/Tigers (rematch of ’06, only this time the Cards get to lose)
Cards/Rangers (meh)

I do get a giggle out of the Tigers being the only remaining team in the Eastern time zone, though.

Everybody there fixates on them right now because of the last 3-4 years, but remember that the Phillies were terrible for a LONG time. First to 10,000 losses, you know? They had 1980, 1993, and…not much else until this recent run.

The Flyers and Eagles have always been tops in that town, but with the Phillies actually winning a championship in the last 30 years, they’ve temporarily gone “King of the Mountain.”

he gets paid

I don’t know what the state of the insurance market for baseball contracts is these days. I seem to recall hearing it had sort of melted away, but I think after 2008 insurers were looking around for investments and started looking into catastrophic coverages (hurricane insurance, earthquake insurance, etc.).

The insurance re-pays the team, it’s a kind of stop-loss coverage. I don’t know how cost-effective the coverage is, but I think they do insure the larger ones still.

After the World Series, I got football. After the Super Bowl, I got nothing until April (I will watch a little NCAA basketball in March).

This will be the first time since 1984 where I don’t have a team I am rooting for or against in the LCS. Whether rooting for my teams: Giants and Red Sox or against: Yankees, Braves, Phillies, Dodgers, Angels, Marlins.

Stat that continues to amaze me (you've probably heard it a lot tonight)

Only three times in the last 21 baseball postseasons has the team with the best regular season record gone on to win the World Series (Yankees 1998 and 2009; Red Sox 2007).

Giants had the best record in 2000 and couldn’t get by the NY Mets in the NLDS (damn Dusty for not pitch hitting Gardner in game 4).

Well, everyone’s schedules are a little different—maybe the differences between the win totals at the top aren’t that statistically significant?

That, and depth is much more important in the regular season than postseason.
