Zach Maynard is terrible.

Once more, coming to you by proxy.

by howtheyscored on Oct 22, 2011 5:03 PM PDT reply actions

Yes.

And sadly (for me) so is the rest of the team this year.

by WhatsAMataHari on Oct 22, 2011 5:04 PM PDT up reply actions

I really think it’s just him. The defense has holes, but it’s serviceable. Allen and Jones are a decent pair of receivers. Sofele has acquitted himself well at the running back spot. The o-line is okay.

It’s Maynard. This isn’t a Rose Bowl team with an actual QB. But top-25 seems right.

Once more, coming to you by proxy.

by howtheyscored on Oct 22, 2011 5:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Why did we go out of our way to get him, again?

by WhatsAMataHari on Oct 22, 2011 5:08 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, the alternative at the time was Brock Mansion, and Maynard is probably better than him. Tedford obviously doesn’t think much of Bridgford anymore.

Also was been helpful in keeping Keenan Allen around.

I’d be happy to see one of the freshmen right now, though.

Once more, coming to you by proxy.

I’m not going to be able to hit 100% completion (there are 6 plastic bins of her infant/toddler clothing that need to be sorted and donated, but I don’t think I can get to that today), but at least there will be a place for all her stuff and I can reclaim the floor and pretty much ever flat surface, which are all covered in toys, drawings, silly bands, books, etc.

I have 11 13-gallon plastic bags full of clothes to donate, and another 3 or 4 of clothes and shoes unsuitable for donation that will be recycled or heading for the landfill. They’re cumulative from both kids.

Aargh.

Ivan Rodriguez, Rafael Palmeiro, Buddy Bell, Toby Harrah, Frank Howard, Juan Gonzalez could all be fairly considered better than Michael Young. PItching wise they’ve had Nolan Ryan, Bert Blyleven, Kenny Rogers, Gaylord Perry, Kevin Brown, and Fergie Jenkins (although a lot of those guys weren’t in Texas for their peaks). I don’t think it is really fair to the Rangers to claim Michael Young is anything like their best.

The Texas Rangers at one time employed Nolan Ryan, Charlie Hough, Kevin Brown, Jamie Moyer, and Kenny Rogers all on the same team. Ryan and Hough were both in their 40’s, while Brown, Moyer, and Rogers all pitching until at least 40 in their respective careers.

Today my dad and I got to see his alma mater blow a game against Louisiana Tech, thanks to a rule that I had never heard of. Apparently if you punt by kicking the ball directly off the ground, that’s an illegal kick and it results in a ten-yard penalty from the spot of the kick and a loss of down (in other words, turnover on downs).

My mom went to Santa Clara and it’s the closest university to where I live, so that’s my team. BYU will definitely raise the conference’s profile, but I’m not sure that they’re a good fit. The WCC is a conference of small Catholic schools (plus Pepperdine, which is only differs in its religious affiliation) that are almost all on or near the coast; BYU is pretty far inland, but more importantly it’s a big university with facilities and resources that are on par with some of the most prominent public schools in the country. Because of its religious affiliation, it has access to a nationwide recruiting base that the other schools can’t match; can you imagine Jimmer Fredette committing to any of the other schools in the conference?

It would be great if it worked out, but I’m worried BYU will end up dominating the conference.

AFL update

Crawford went 2-5 with a HR
Brown was 2-5
Panik didn’t play
Couple of pitchers pitched a couple of scoreless innings (Rosin and Fleet)

Crawford is now batting .353/.389/.588. I know. SSS, minor league pitching and he will never hit in the big leagues, etc.

P.S. Can’t get a Belt update. The internet broke in the DR or something.

and most of United’s talent has come up through their youth system or brought to the club when they were youngsters… very few big money transfers… which is all that City is….

Micah Richards is a youth product. So was Stephen Ireland, who was a big part of the swap deal for Milner.

Kompany, Kolarov, de Jong, AJ, and Hart are all players brought to the club as youngsters before they were at their full potential; heck, you may even be able to add Balotelli to the list given his age and his potential.

they usually don’t dish out massive amounts of money like City or Chelsea do to bring players who are already superstars to the team… Red Sox or Yankees style…..

See, I can sympathize with a supporter of a club other than Chelsea or United or Liverpool if they give this argument, but to grouse about City’s spending with 28 million on Veron, 27 million on Ferdinand, 27 million on Rooney, 30 million on Berbatov in United’s rear view mirror as well as a gross spending account that’s pretty close to even with City’s over the last decade when inflation is accounted for…

Well, like, Posey, I ain’t havin’ it.

actually, that’s kind of true- Rooney was bought from Everton and then there was the glorious Christian Ronaldo era. Speaking of which, maybe one wants to buy the Giants?)

I remember him in the World Cup, before he signed with United, being hyped up beyond belief. It was the World Cup where he was a little “over eager” in tackling Rooney and almost caused an international incident. It’s why it was such a big story when United signed him.
