OT: Randy Winn honoring thread

This might seem pretty random but I just wanted to take a moment to pay some respect to Mr. Goodguy McClassyson who began the year with the Yankees and was almost guarenteed to end his absence from a payoff series once and for all, until he was cut. St. Louis then signed him mid season and at the time I thought he was still destined to finally get to play in Rocktober until the Cardinals slowly started to fall off the map.

Tonight Cincinnati clinched the NL central guaranteeing that Winn will have to wait another year until he can hopefully get some post season at bats before he has to call it a career. I always liked Winn when he was on the Giants but Im not some huge fan or anything, I just feel a little bad that such good guy may not get the opportunity to play in the post season ever in a 13 year major league career, when other players like Derek Jeter get to go for like his 12th time and Chipper Jones might still get to go for his 28th or whatever time.

Well Winn atleast was always classy and atleast we always took notice.

He’s also the patron saint of terrorizing the Diamondbacks, so it’s a good time to invoke him.

Mark DeRosa, still existing.

Given his performance this year, it seems quite likely that his pursuit of post-season may have come to an end. Not only did Randy never play on a playoff team, he almost never came close. Last year was only the 2nd time he’d ever played on a team with a .500 record. The 2003 Mariners (93-69) was the best team he was ever on and they finished 3 games behind the A’s and 2 behind the Red Sox for the Wild Card.

Setting 2010 aside, the 3rd best team Randy Winn ever played on was the 76-85 2006 SF Giants. He’s played on 7 different teams that failed to win 70 games.

On the bright side: in 3rd place on the active most games played without a playoff appearance list? Aubrey Huff!

My Bucardo is better than yours.

A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

Randy Winn was a good Giant.

It’s just too bad that Bochy kept starting him every single day last season.

poor guy

I feel bad that he was never on a good team when he was in his prime. Even if he were to make the playoffs in the next year or two, he’ll certainly do it as a bench player.

Stay classy Randy.

I’ll never forget how Randy Winn tore up the league in his first couple of months as a Giant. That was awesome. I hope he’s got another decent season hiding in there somewhere, but I suspect it’s all over….

Yes, really, I have not updated my blog in a long long time: http://skaldheim.livejournal.com/tag/baseball

If he truly is done, I hope the Giants invite him back as some kind of coach. Maybe give some tips to OFs about playing RF.

It feels kind of weird talking about him in the past tense, but

He could always be counted on to be a pain the Dodgers’ side as well.

Fare thee well, Mr. Winn!

I feel prickishly demanding!

I couldn't be prouder of my recent adoptee - Tim Lincecum's dealer. He provides the secret fuel behind both Cy Youngs. Also, he taught Timmy the change-up.

As Kruk and Kuip might say, "Randy Winn was a good Giant"

Had he been playing rightfield this year, we probably still would be
in the situation we are in. 4 games to go, with a 2 game lead. A win
on Thursday will be huge. No let down Gmen.
