It seems as if Felipe Lopez would be a good fit for the Giants. He is a very versatile player; he has played at every position on the field except catcher and center field in his career. Granted, his defense at third leaves A LOT to be desired, but he could certainly be used to spell Renteria, who is very well acquainted with the trainer's room. (Lopez apparently is a better defender at SS, but maybe it's a product of SSS). Fontenot has shown that he really doesn't have the arm to play anywhere in the infield except second, and we all know that the Panda, Renteria, and Uribe need days off pretty badly.
His slash line was nowhere nearly as impressive in STL (.231/.310/.340) as it was last year in Milwaukee and Arizona (.310/.383/.427). However, it seems that his terrible 2010 season is a product of BABIP and limited playing time. I don't expect him to slug .430 again any time soon, as his 2009 season was as lucky as this season has been unlucky, but San Francisco can probably cure a few of his ills. Plus, if we add him immediately, we can trace the roster move to Renteria's injury (whatever it is this time, I have no idea), and he would be eligible for the Playoff roster (of course, that's no small task in itself). Money shouldn't be an issue; he could be signed for a prorated portion of the minimum, which is negligible with two weeks left. Plus, he's less than 500 miles away from Chicago, so he could probably reach the team quickly.
