minor (playoff) lines, 9/13/10

San Jose swept the Cal League's Northern Division championship series, led in the series' finale by Jose Flores' four hits and Kyle Woodruff not allowing an earned run.

Star-divide

A+: San Jose defeated Modesto 8-2
(breaking out with five runs in the 5th inning and sweeping the best-of-five series)

San Jose: DH Jose Flores: 4 for 5
San Jose: 3B Brandon Crawford: 2 for 4
San Jose: SS Ehire Adrianza: 1 for 3, HR, SH, E
San Jose: 1B Michael Sandoval: 3 for 4, HR, SO

San Jose: SP Kyle Woodruff: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K--1 WP
San Jose: RP Ryan Verudgo: 1.0 IP, 2 K

While every Giant in the lineup had at least one hit, their fifteen-hit attack was paced by Flores' four hits.  Sandoval added three more hits, including a solo HR in the 8th inning to put the final icing on the cake.  Adrianza, who had just 3 HRs in the regular season, led off the 6th inning with a HR too.  Crawford joined Flores and Sandoval as a third Giant in the lineup with multiple hits.  All three of those hitters had an AVG above .500 in the three-game series.

Woodruff, who had a 3.28 ERA in his nine starts, during the regular season, did not allow an earned run in this playoff start.  Verdugo, the first of four Giants relievers to pitch one inning each, had 2 K in a perfect 6th inning.

Note: The Cal League championship series will begin Thursday in San Jose.  Rancho Cucamonga leads Lake Elsinore 2-1 in their best-of-five series, with the winner advacing to face San Jose.

This can’t be said enough.

Jonathan Sanchez: Often maddening to watch, but capable of perfection on a moment's notice---just like his adoptive father.

If there can be a minor league guru there can and should be a draft guru and I nominate Fla-Giant. Outstanding coverage this year.

Thanks

But Steve does the day-in and day-out heavy lifting, I just did my draft stuff mostly around the June draft and August signing deadline dates.

Oh, and thanks also for getting the moniker right. I did put on some weight while on my recent vacation, but I don’t think it was enough for others to start referring to me in the plural. LOL.

Amen

I look forward to reading this everyday.

Jonathan Sanchez. He's left-handed, like Barry Zito. His fastball breaks 80, unlike Zito.

I couldn't be prouder of my recent adoptee - Tim Lincecum's dealer. He provides the secret fuel behind both Cy Youngs. Also, he taught Timmy the change-up.

Can’t be said enough: Steve is why I come here.

My Bucardo is better than yours.

A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

additional thanks to you, for being yet another source of amazing analysis and information. the minor lines are amazing in their own right, but the discussions that follow often take it to another level.

Hey thanks. I don’t think I provide anything of more value than anyone else here and less than many, but it’s certainly nice of you to say so.

Thanks to each of you for your appreciative comments. It does come nicely at the end of the season. Brute and I had a short conversation a few weeks ago in which I was openly questioning the extent to which I want to do this again next year. I haven’t made any decisions about next year yet, though.
