unfortunately

I can see Sabes signing him now especially if the Royals are paying most if his contract

Sabes will probably pounce

Just because it makes no sense. The only roster OF that we have that Guillen would outperform is Rowand, not that Bochy would slot him in the part-timer role that Rowand is in. We would inevitably see an outfield of Huff/Burrell, Rowand, Guillen. My eyes would bleed.

Bochy would be killed if he took out Torres.

Hopefully Susan ensures this report never makes it to Sabes.

Ned

We need him to pick up Guillen so Sabes doesn’t.

Ugh… the Bautista/Wellemeyer move conveniently leaves an open space on the 40-man roster.

according to ESPN’s Jayson Stark:

All those Jose Guillen trade rumors turned out to be nothing more than wishful Royals thinking. The Royals never had one team pursue Guillen seriously.
so all that bullshit about the Giants supposedly scouting him was, shocking enough, bullshit.

Does Jose have a small pony as well?

If so we are doomed.

I don't see a big problem, as long as he's a bench player.

It would be nice to have a decent right handed pinch hitter.

As long as he’s a bench player.

We already have one of those

He’s either called Pat Burrell or Aaron Rowand.

Burrell should be playing.

Rowand isn’t decent.

If Rowand isn't a decent bench player

then Guillen isn’t either.

Rowand's a fine bench player, but mostly because of his defense.

Guillen’s a better pinch hitter (at least this season, we’re talking about pretty small differences here)

It’s a false dichotomy anyway, they’d both be on the team. The question is whether Guillen is more useful as a PH than Casilla or Wellemeyer is as the 13th pitcher.

None of the above

I’d rather have a backup infielder than either a 6th outfielder or an 8th man in the bullpen.

It’s not really a false dichotomy because my point was that Guillen is superfluous on a roster that already includes Rowand and Burrell.

We alrady have a backup middle infielder.

We just need to figure out how to get Sanchez out of the lineup.

rimshot

Seriously, though, why would we another middle infielder? unless he’s better than the ones we’ve got (and such a player seems unlikely to clear waivers).

Because the ones we have are Uribe, Sanchez, and Renteria

Sanchez is slumping, Uribe is gimpy, and Renteria looks very much over the hill. Sandoval looks like he could use a day or two off as well.

Guillen would be the 5th outfielder, no? Unless you’re counting Huff as an outfielder.

I am counting Huff as an outfielder

It’s where he’s gotten the vast majority of his starts the last two months.
