and...
by bringing in your closer in the 8th inning of a 5-run deficit, just so he can get some work, you’re basically admitting the game is out of reach. Because if you think the game is still winnable, you bring in another reliever, any other reliever, and if they’re still down by a bunch Wilson can pitch the 9th to get his work in.
But when the unthinkable happened and they had that 8th inning rally, suddenly you’re asking Wilson to get the save having thrown 23 pitches. And yeah, he still should have gotten the save, and Sandoval deserves blame for the error in the 9th, but Bochy wasn’t managing strategically.

TWO OUTS in the THIRD with the Pitcher On Deck with BASES EMPTY
MadBum could then have started the Fourth or Ramirez could have relieved him in the Fourth, then Ramirez would have been able to finish the 4th and 5th innings. Casilla would have pitched the 6th, Affeldt the 7th, Romo the 8th, and Wilson the 9th.

MadBum gives up another homer, makes another mental mistake, and throws his arm out ruining his career. You’re assuming Bumgarner gets those guys out.
