The fact that Carpenter’s been angry about it is also ridiculous.
Osiris, Lord of the Dead, and relief pitcher for the Fresno Grizzlies.
Complaining has completely paid off for Carpenter: he griped about pitches in the zone and he’s now getting balls called strikes. Respectable!

It's how he's wired.
I think you could hand him a kitten while he’s on the baseball field, and he’d look angry while petting it. For the safety of the kitten though, I think I’d avoid testing that hypothesis.
Carpenter is a crybaby. Can’t stand listening to him whine all the time about everything. /whine..

Its not easy being a giants fan
Lincecum didn't pitch that badly. Defense betrayed him a bit, and some balls found holes.
Can’t really pin this one on him, too much.
It was better than his last few starts, but he was still pretty bad. He gave up a HR to Randy Winn and a double to Pedro Feliz. And he didn’t get a whole lot of Ks.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"Out, out, Fred Lewis!" - JCTillam Gamerspeare
Yeah.
I kind of got the feeling that he ‘could’ have struck out more batters, though. Just went right after some of the Cards weaker hitters, and got burnt by it. Maybe a Borked up pitching plan for the night? Who knows.
Sorry to say, but giving up 4 runs in 5.1 innings to a lineup that (like you said) is really not very good is not particularly encouraging.

Yeah, I'm not denying that.
I dunno, I guess I just want to have hope. I like Timmy, and he’s essential to the Giants’ postseason push.
I with you
the first 3 innings when he was hitting 94 consistently and had his good command with the fastball and breaking pitch were great. But he never had command of the changeup and then the velo dropped to 90-91 in the 4th and it just seemed like he was going to get hit. He also started leaving the breaking pitch up.
Maybe the heat got to him, but he definitely lost steam after 3.

He's a terrible game manager, but a pretty good
season manager, if that makes sense. He keeps the clubhouse on a generally even keel and keeps guys fresh. Maybe too fresh, with some over-tinkering of lineups/playing time. I don’t like his twisting of the media in an attempt to fire guys up or such, but it’s part of him being who he is, I guess.

Well, it's part of LaRussa's managing style
Some umps are influenced one way by it, other umps are influenced the opposite way.
Eh. I think it's more a way to try and calm irritating down in his pitchers, than actual attempts to influence umpiring.
Maybe I’m naive, I just would hope officials have higher standards, and make the calls to the best of their ability either way.
he and his pitchers certainly are irritating.

They're pro baseball players.
I think 99% of them were douches in high school, heh.
Ah, c'mon. I 'was' a damn good high school baseball player, and was a Grade A douche due to it.
Or maybe that was just me being me, I dunno. I was young(er) and stupid(er). I’d bet most guys with the ability to be major leaguers had a severe case of attitude and entitlement in high school.
Let's not forget about the 28% or so that did not even go to high school
They didn’t have a chance to be douches there.
Hm. Valid point.
Doesn’t mean they weren’t douches, just…not in high school.
Yes but that's all I said "douche in high school."
Still plenty of douches, although, I’m pretty sure many of the Giants are nice. Besides, in my high school, most of the douches stuck to football, basketball, and even soccer. Yes, douchey soccer players. There IS such a thing.
Dunno.
Our baseball program is/was top notch, and the guys on the team knew they were good. We had a bit of a sense of entitlement, and looking back on it, we were gigantic douches.
I’m sure that’s the case most anywhere, though. Male high school athletes are…well. Teenage males.
Maybe it's more of an athlete thing.
I’m not too athletic (though I have my moments), neither are my friends who are guys so I wouldn’t know. I guess success can lead to doucheness. I remember scoring twice from first base in gym softball and cussing and boasting afterward. It changes a man. But I mean, I don’t think that 99% of these players are assholes at their core. Baseball changes a man.
Not necessarily assholes. But attitudes/arrogance?
You almost have to have it to be a competitor.
Oh yeah definitely.
Which is why outside of the game, I’m sure that a good number of these guys are genuinely cool cats. Ya dig?
I dunno about that, Voxx,
I’m a high school teacher and, though my school isn’t really very high powered in local sports, most of the “stars” I’ve had in class have been fine young men and women. A few have become stars as professionals (you’d know their names) and they were great kids.

I’m sure Chris Carpenter is going to hold a press conference asking for Lincecum to give Wainwright last year’s Cy Young, given Lincecum’s Correian performance this year.
Lincecum deserved the Cy last year, by any reasonable metric.
Even (most) Cardinals fans easily acknowledge that. If Carpenter hadn’t been injured for a few starts last year, then…there might have been some debate. But, he was.
I was thinking Wainwright would win it, and, personally, I wouldn’t have been pissed about that. I am more upset by the outrage, though.
I would have been a bit annoyed.
Only thing Adam had was Wins, and I fucking hate the Wins stat. Even when it favors the team I’m a fan of.
That's why I presumed he'd win.
And, understanding that, wouldn’t have blushed. Plus, I fixated on that Cain-Wainwright showdown last year and I was impressed.
