Hard to Believe

But as good as Posey has been in July, Huff has been more productive the whole entire year.

Certainly puts it into perspective

Just how good Huff has been. If Votto faulters at all down the stretch and Huff keeps it up, he could be deserving of the MVP. Probably still won’t happen because Huff plays on the wrong coast. If he played in NY, Philly or Boston we would all be sick of hearing about him by now.

The scary part of that chart is how dependent our fortunes have become on 3 players. Going down the stretch is frankly too much to hope that all three can sustain anything like their July production, and I just don’t see who else on this roster is going to pick up their slack if they return to Earth. Unless you’re still waiting for Pablo’s missing power to make a sudden reappearance, that’s really worrisome heading into the dog days.

A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

No

It would be scary if our fortunes were dependent on one, maybe 2 overperformers. In this case though, we have 3, and “overperformance” may be a reach, as all 3 are performing well as a result of a sound approach. The odds of all three falling off in the second half are slim. Our bases may be covered, so to speak.

Additionally, the fact that there are still underperformers in the lineup (Rowand, Sandoval, Sanchez) who can still heat up, including one who is starting a hot streak (Rowand) and one who really could make a serious impact down the stretch (Sandoval), would seem to suggest to me that we are well-positioned.

What’s so scary about that?

They don’t necessarily have to “fall off” to stop putting up .490 wOBAs though. That’s a torrid streak. They just have to not be incredibly hot for the results to start to show up. If the three of them simply have a streak of good solid production it can have a deleterious affect on our run scoring ability.

I thought the Giants were winning because it’s magic inside?

I feel prickishly demanding!

I couldn't be prouder of my recent adoptee - Tim Lincecum's dealer. He provides the secret fuel behind both Cy Youngs. Also, he taught Timmy the change-up.

You wear the snuggies on the outside to keep the magic inside warm.

Huff is now a Type B FA

If we offer him arb and he signs with someone else we can get a 2nd round pick now!

If he puts up solid but not torrid stats for the rest of the year, can he make type A?

Probably not

he barely made the cutoff for Type B status. Of course I’m not 100% sure how these rankings are determined, so maybe

If we resign him for a year

And he puts up solid numbers, he could be a Type A easily

I would like to talk to you about my pokemonz

I really hope/think they'll come to terms

The team knows what he means to them and he’s having the time of his life. I can’t remember a player joining the team and becoming such an integral part of the team. Not only is he having an MVP-type year, he seems from the outside like he’s the “heart and soul” of the team.

I'm of mixed emotions on this

I mean part of me sees how good of an addition Huff has been, and he really seems to be having fun. On the otherhand this is a business and the 2010 1B FA class is loaded, and this is likely a career year for Huff.
