"General manager Brian Sabean and one his top evaluators, Lee Elder, watched from the press box, perhaps scouting potential trade targets Corey Hart, Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun."

Don't tease me like that, Schulman.

I think schulman is just tossing out names for the sake of tossing out names.

My love for Buster Posey isn't unhealthy. Or at least that's what I keep telling myself.

I will say this

Braun is not flawless: His defense is truly terrible, and he’s a huge hack. His salary and power are enough to dwarf his flaws for now, but it would be reasonable for an NL team start exploring their options before his contract escalates and his glove becomes unplayable.

I had a nice tweet war with Jeff Fletcher on this today.

@AmyGGiants Braun’s ability, age and contract make him easily one of the top 6 or 7 most valuable assets in the game.
@JeffFletcherAOL Ryan Braun has never reached 5 WAR because of poor defense, great player, not one of top 7 assets even considering contract
@davidtiao I think his age and contract more than make up for his defense.
@davidtiao I didn’t say best players. I said valuable assets.
@JeffFletcherAOL Cano, Pedroia, Longoria, Utley, Strasburg, Tulowitzki, Brett Anderson all young, cost eff, 3+ yrs ctrl, better all around
@davidtiao That’s a pretty short list, and I’m not sure I’d put Utley on it. He’s 4 years older, signed 3 more yrs for 45M. Braun 5/40.

Having a contest here. You’re the #brewers. Who would u trade Ryan Braun for, straight up. (Braun is 27, signed for 40M for next 5+ yrs.)
@JeffFletcherAOL Ubaldo (4yr/10, 2 opt), Heyward, Upton (J.). Maybe Hanley, though 6/70 is quite a bit. But that bat at SS is insane.

@JeffFletcherAOL had Braun been able to stick at 3B or is at least neutral defensively, he would be top 5 value. Not negative uzr at LF.

The only one of those guys he listed who I would actually trade Braun for if I were the Brewers GM is Heyward. I’d also pull the trigger for Longoria.

I should have been more specific. If it says @davidtiao, it came from Fletcher. If it says @jefffletcheraol, it came from me.

Braun is the ultimate overrated player: high AVG, few walks, zero defensive value. Still great, though.

So Schulman is screwed either way

Because I’ve seen a lot of complaints about him not challenging the Giants with his own opinion. I think he’s a hybrid; he reports game stroies, but shares his opnions and speclation (a la a columnist) on his blog.

Eh, I think the complaints come from him taking the wrong side, and if he only reported facts, I don’t know how many people would complain. I also don’t know how many people would even read his blog.

Starting price for Braun would have to involve Posey, MadBum, or even both, no? Great as he is, I don’t think we could afford him.

The downgrade from Posey and Bumgarner to Whiteside and Martinez (?) is probably alot bigger than the upgrade from Burrell to Braun.

Baggarly suggested Todd Coffey might be a piece Sabean should target from Milwaukee.

Mentioned Hart and Fielder, too, but no Braun. Some might call it realism.

I don’t even know why anyone thinks the Brewers are looking to trade Braun

This

There is no way Sabean gives up what it takes to get Braun, and I wouldn’t want him to.

Fuck Armageddon, this is hell.

by Disaster on Jul 6, 2010 9:29 AM PDT up reply actions

Personally

I keep wondering whether Sabean joined up with the team to lay into Bochy rather than to talk trade with the Brewers.

If speculation about trading Molina because Bochy wouldn’t sit him is true, it would pizz Sabean off to know end to see Whiteside starting more games and pinch-running for Posey and he might feel the need for a face-to-face “Are we clear?” speech.

I speculate the same

And in addition, if the team loses 3 out of 4 in Milwaukee, he was there to fire Bochy as the organizational fall guy.

I just wonder where all this confidence in Sabean being close to firing Bochy has come from lately. I don’t see it happening mid-season, if at all.

Anybody, but Hart

Imagine an outfield consisting for Huff, Torres, and Braun. Lol we could bat him in the 3rd spot and Huff in clean-up. If sabean can pull this deal off then I will love him forever. I just don’t want anyone from our starting rotation to be traded also Posey can’t go either. Sandoval stays too… Who am I kidding this trade will never happen!
