Post-game thread: Giants get abused by Ubal...wait, what?
So that's the game I decide not to watch. The one with the fireworks and the grand slams and home runs and the offense. Almost halfway through the season, and this the first game I ignore. Fine. Well, here's what I have to say to that:
Suck it, Ubaldo. Think about this one at midnight for the next six weeks
That is all.

I would be kind of pissed about this game. As it is, I will take it.

I know Rollins is back off from the DL.
And last I checked, he was at least second in votes (Hanley at 1?) at SS thanks to LOL idiot voters who didn’t see he spent most of this season on the DL.
If Manuel doesn’t see Rollins get voted in, there are good odds that he might put him on the last man ballot. Though… I won’t be surprised if the fans vote in Matt Cain 2.0— err, I mean Strasburg— as the last man.
There isnt really a way Rollins makes it. Manuel isnt that much of a homer

OK, what’s Zito’s record with four runs of support or more now? I suppose he got a no-decision, the lucky bastard.

Romo’s apparent no-no? He nodded twice to Posey. Amazingly, he still got a swinging strike, but how can a major leaguer do that?

Double positive = negative. This means he was saying no, but then he threw the pitch anyway. So Buster was confused and caught the ball.

This:
That the only pitch that requires double acceptation is a fastball: once for pitch type and once for location. The pitcher has to take care to accept or refuse the combination, not each individually, else the batter knows it must be a fastball coming.

Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"Out, out, Fred Lewis!" - JCTillam Gamerspeare
Zambrano’s contract is worse than Rowand’s and it’s for a year more. Rowand really isn’t as bad as he’s been this year, and the team already has a metric fuckton of cash they’re throwing at their rotation in a few years. Zambrano seems to be exactly the kind of deal the Giants don’t need and shouldn’t try to acquire.
GROUGTHINK ALERT
The first Chester Arthur fanboy ever.
Well, it goes without saying that I’d only do it if the Cubs kicked in at least half of the difference (if not the whole difference)
Both contracts end in ‘12 though, iirc. Zambrano’s has a vesting option that’s not likely to vest.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"Out, out, Fred Lewis!" - JCTillam Gamerspeare
Isn't that option based on something ridiculous?

I dunno, maybe.
I guess I think Zambrano’s going to decline pretty sharply, and it’ll end up being a decision between mediocrity at a position where our GM can never find anything better than mediocrity, or mediocrity at a position where there could well be something better.
GROUGTHINK ALERT
The first Chester Arthur fanboy ever.
Sure sure
No one is saying that we do this because Z will be our ace.
But it makes sense because he’ll probably be better than Rowand, and it’ll make it hurt less if we trade one of our other starters.

1. We were losing when Bochy was tossed, and we won. Wotus gets the win.
2. Zito should be ashamed of himself for blowing a 7-1 lead. Giants needed a stopper tonight and he let them down , even with tons of support.
3. Ubaldo said he noticed a flaw in his last two starts and he corrected it. Yeah, right.
4. I know he’s going to get re-signed to a stupid extension, but I love Aubrey Huff. Keep chanting his name, dumb Rockie fans.
5. I was surprised he pulled Affeldt with the lefty due up. Considering Gonzalez was killing them and had two HR’s in the series against lefties, it was the right move.
6. I hope Dexter Fowler and Jonathan Herrera get in a car crash leaving the stadium. Not fatal, just out for the year.
7. More Zito. No Tulo, no Helton, no Hawpe, no Seth Smith and you get creamed by a lineup that had Melvin Mora hitting fourth? Mevin Mora? I think we have an answer to the question “who is a player that has hit cleanup that is worse than Bengie Molina?”
8. Juan Uribe is finally becoming the player I thought he was when the Giants signed him last year. Can he hit behind Posey please!

I just noticed that Dan Runzler has a 6.1 BB/9. I’m not surprised, but wow. I remember cautioning people last year after his Sept. run about his control. I can’t remember who, but I remember arguing with someone over it.
Alex Hinshaw 2.0!?
Ask me about my blog.
Giants actually have 4 relievers with walk rates of 6+. Affeldt (6), Runzler (6.1), Bautista (6.1), and Casilla (6.3)

Bochy says Ishi is playing tomorrow, so Huff will be in the outfield. I have no problem with Burrell playing, it’s Rowand who should be sitting. I also think Buster will be catching, although I don’t think he came out and said it. I’m basing it on the meeting he had yesterday with the catchers and pitchers. I seriously doubt he would need a meeting to tell everyone that Eli will be catching more.
Buster Posey: "I'm a catcher." Brian Sabean: "I'm an idiot."

Now here’s the deal, first we need to get down on our knees and thank God that we had as much time as we did with Bengie Molina. None of you in this room except Timmeh will ever be that good (looks earnestly as Buster) and I don’t know how we are gonna get along without him. What, Timmeh, you have to go pee? sure go ahead. Now here’s what we’re gonna do. Eli and Buster are both well, valuable assets. So we will splitting the time according to reverse alphabetical order, just to be fair, so that means we have Eli catching in July, Buster in August and so on. Of course, we will review this plan around the first of August. Does anybody who wants to get any playing time have any objections to the plan? Okay, let’s go get em. Who are we playing?

phillies LOL
Roy halladay already has 130 IP, he has two more starts before the ASB where he’ll probably end up with 7 innings each start. That will put him at 144 innings and assuming he goes deep in the second half trying to push the phillies into the playoffs, he could very well pitch over 300 innings. That’s a fucking crazy work load, dusty baker must gbe envious.
"The criticism was so brutal that Sabean was forced to declare, at a press conference, "I am not an idiot." Thus, the pattern of Sabean's relationship to his critics was established."
It’s hard not to let him throw that many innings when he’s so efficient though. I mean he’s had some pitch counts in the 110s but only two 120+ games.

He looked untouchable up until his last 3 starts
His era was 1.15 before his start against boston, now after his start in san diego and the drubbing he took from us today its 2.27. Regressions a bitch, I expect him to end the year with a ERA somewhere in the 3’s judging on how coors field plays in the summer.

Eminem and Cudi are the only mainstream rappers that are worth listening to in my opinion, but I might be too biased to give most mainstream a chance.

Here’s the thing, Wayne CAN be unbearable, that’s your opinion, and i like him because he flows so well, and seriously, i like ALOT of underground rappers, but alot of em turned into mainstream, like B.o.B. Every rapper that’s mainstream were underground, they just had a hit song or a hit album to make it to where they are now.
Wayne is amazing, but what he did with his rock album bullshit is pathetic, it was really bad. Eminem has his raps that are just so meaningful, same with Cudi, who flows so well as well
His name is Bond, Brock Bond, and his adopted father? ME, any questions?
Wayne’s songs are just too hit or miss for me. I probably should give him some of his more serious stuff a listen, but all of his radio hits/club music/whatever aren’t my taste.
Not real big on his voice either. It’s like what Eminem used to do, which was kind of annoying in my opinion.
If you have any good songs to recommend I’ll check them out.
womp
Oh yea, definitely
he can be realllllly hit or miss for sure, like, his mainstream shit is bad, some of it is, that’s why i like just listening to the album, like i really thought “A millie” was his best, it was just him straight rapping. Same with “Tie my hands” kinda showed his willingness to step out and get into something different.
Yea, i hear ya with the voice thing, but yea, check those two songs out by lil wayne, i mean, they’re pretty straight, “i’m me” i really thought this is his best. “Mr. Carter” and “stuntin like my daddy”
His name is Bond, Brock Bond, and his adopted father? ME, any questions?
"tie my hands" was great
only reason why, is that he rapped about basically New Orleans and the Katrina thing, it was fantastic, his grammy performance was really pretty awesome
His name is Bond, Brock Bond, and his adopted father? ME, any questions?
I’m not really feeling A Milli.
I think more than anything it’s his voice, it just makes alot of his lyrics hard to understand, at least for me.
womp
oh for sure, yea, i hear ya, i can definitely see how the voice can get some people. Like if the voice doesnt work, then nothing works at all. Kinda like how i feel about hmm, black eyed peas if you call that rap at all?

Haha, I can’t stand them either. I used to think they were cool when I was like 10 and their songs were in every Tony Hawk game and whatever. No more.

The first 2 THPS games were awesome, but I lost interest as I got older with the 3rd and 4th ones after spending so much time on the original 2.

A WIN THAT WAS TO FIGHT FOR!!
although ishikawa’s grandslam seemed like a pop up, i still love his defense. I would love to see this set lineup for the next 8 games.

Should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night. We will not vanish, without a fight. We’re going to live on. We’re going to survive. Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!

It’s been a bit noisy. Someone is shooting off some loud firecrackers (including cheery bombs). It’s so loud, I’m sure esseffgeez could hear it if he’s home.

lol, well you have the fire department on call just in case right?
His name is Bond, Brock Bond, and his adopted father? ME, any questions?
and the cops
Someone once shot off some highly illegal and highly dangerous fireworks that were similar to some of the kind you see at professional fireworks shows. But that was a couple years ago, I’m sure those were very expensive so they might not be able to afford it anymore.

Fangraphs also has torres as the NL's starting CF along with wilson in the pen!
Glad some people have a brain in this world of baseball “experts”.

Mccutchen has a warrior of 2.2 which is like 10th in the MLB among center fielders. Torres has a war of 3.0 which ranks him 3rd in the MLB behind rios (3.1) and marlon byrd (3.2). The next closest to torres is angel pagan with 2.4 and then it gets lower below that. Just shows you how great torres has been this year, and he will only get better :D.
"The criticism was so brutal that Sabean was forced to declare, at a press conference, "I am not an idiot." Thus, the pattern of Sabean's relationship to his critics was established."
Perhaps . . .
Jason Heyward or Marlon Byrd. Mind, Torres was at a low point when the snapshot I used downthread was taken; I’d put him #3, competitive for #2, but that’s purely on offense; how his fine defense compares with the others I don’t know.

Torres is the shit

"The criticism was so brutal that Sabean was forced to declare, at a press conference, "I am not an idiot." Thus, the pattern of Sabean's relationship to his critics was established."
I only go by . . .
. . . how ESPN designates them. He does have enough PAs to date to be considered “regular” (exactly what that is, I’d have to look up), but if he’s not a CF it’s immaterial. (Thank you for pointing that out.)
Professional baseball analyst since 1980.
What you mean is
If he’s in the game and not playing CF, it’s a crime.
"The criticism was so brutal that Sabean was forced to declare, at a press conference, "I am not an idiot." Thus, the pattern of Sabean's relationship to his critics was established."
This might be interesting:
I listed our position players by where they rank among their peers in the NL who are playing enough to be considered “regulars”. I had to cheat a bit, since some of the Giants’ newly established regulars (such as Burrell in LF) don’t themselves qualify as “regulars” by PA/G count, but anyway, here it is (this does not include results from the Saturday Night Massacre):
LF : 1 C : 3 SS : 3 1B : 4 CF : 4 2B : 9 RF : 10 3B : 11
(The metric is my own TOP, but I daresay any total-offense metric—one which excludes defensive considerations, that is—would come out pretty much the same.)
I used FSanchez, Renteria, and Sandoval; Uribe is higher than FSanchez and Sandoval and lower than Renteria, but using him anywhere on the IF changes things only slightly.
I hope to do a fuller exposition in a day or so as a FanPost.
Professional baseball analyst since 1980.
Meant to also say . . .
. . . the OF is Burrell, Torres, Schierholtz, the catcher is Posey, and the 1B is Huff.
Professional baseball analyst since 1980.
And then came Manuel Corpas. Nate Shierholtz hit a leadoff triple and scored on a Andres Torres single. Joe Beimel relieved Corpas and eventually allowed the inherited runner to cross home plate. Oh, hey, that 8-7 lead is now a 8-9 deficit. Joy.
Things looked good during the bottom of the eighth when Carlos Gonzalez came to the plate with two men on, though two out already. OH MAN, HE SMOKED THAT ONE!!!! Oh, right into Uribe’s waiting glove. Well, let’s just get through the next half inning without allowing any more ru—what, Randy Flores allowed an Aubrey Huff two-run homer. GAH!
man, why can’t we get outstanding insight like this from grant?
LOL Bochy
Manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday the problem was the commissioner’s office had to approve the trade, which was no slam dunk with the Rangers in bankruptcy.
“The deal was not completed until the next day,” Bochy said. "Somehow with the guys’ computers and iPads, they got the news on that. But you can’t say anything until the deal is finalized. I told Bengie when we landed the deal was not completed.
Hrmmm.. somehow on the interwebs with all those tubes lincy, wilsy, cainy, ishi, told bengie he been traded.
Hrmmm.. somehow on the interwebs with all those tubes lincy, wilsy, cainy, ishi, told bengie he been traded.Fucking moron
So wait… when botchy got thrown out of the game maybe Wotus really was in charge. Apparently botchy doesn’t know how to use new fangled technology like cell phones.
