I will give that Rowand is a better hitter then Timmy

but Timmy hitting there was the correct choice. At the time, it seems that extra innings it possible and that would have been one less position player available.

Again the real error was the PR in the 6th.

Don’t forget there was a runner at third. A hit there gets you the lead and only 6 outs to get.

I still think it was a horrible move meant to let Lincecum get a shot at a win rather than what was best for the team’s chances of winning the game.

by nofreetime on Jul 25, 2010 3:51 PM PDT up reply actions

I guarantee you rowand was not going to get a hit there

if it was a choice between letting Rowand hit or leaving tim in, I leave tim in 10 times out of 10

Even with runner on third it was two outs

Had to be a hit. I agree that Rowand is a better hitter, but if Rowand makes an out there (far fetched I know) the team is worse off in case of extras.

Huh?

The team is better off in case of extras. But you don’t want Rowand hitting so how is his being available off the bench in the future make you better off?

I really don’t understand the logic.

by nofreetime on Jul 25, 2010 3:56 PM PDT up reply actions

You use Rowand as a PH in that situation and

He is not available should it go to extras. You are left with Whiteside and Rohlinger as position players off the bench.

How was that hard to figure out?

My point is that why do you care if he is available off the bench if you trust a pitcher to hit over him in a situation where a hit will get you the lead in the eighth?

by nofreetime on Jul 25, 2010 4:00 PM PDT up reply actions

I think the decision to have him pitch was made taking into account the already short bench from the PR in the 6th

It was playing more defensive, but chances are Bochy had images of the carrying 13 pitchers/Whiteside problem fresh in his mind.

I am saying I understand why he did it. He wanted to be prepared.
