It's amazing how quickly things have changed. DeJesus would have been a nice pick-up if the price was only two minor leaguers (assuming neither was Wheeler or Belt - and I don't think Sabes is that stupid). Hart is now banged up and he was too expensive anyway. None of the other bats we hear about are particularly inviting - given the cost.
And of course now its all about a left handed reliever. The Giants do not have a real choice. They have to sign someone. That, of course, is known by all GM's and thus the Giants will have to overpay. Hopefully not by too much.
And then there is Roy Oswalt. I know he isn't in the Giants vision. But I wonder if he should be. He's signed through 11 (with an option for 12 that probably will be waived by Oswalt prior to any trade). The Dodgers are making noises of signing him and that is scary. You MAY be able to get him for Sanchez, Bowker/Schierholtz and a prospect or two (again not named Wheeler or Belt). A staff of Lincecum Cain Oswalt Bum and Zito is an enticing thought. It is not going to happen. But if I were Sabean I'd look long and hard at entering the sweepstakes. All they can say is no.
