Aramis en Fuego

I've seen the Cubs' 3b Ramirez pop up as a potential acquisition in a couple of threads, but really just in passing. Dude's had a horrible season to date, but he's also had a multi-hit game in 7 of his last 8 starts (and 5 of them all year, prior to this current streak). I'd like to think we could still buy low to add some thump to the lineup, but maybe that's wishful thinking. He'd likely be owed over $20m between this year and next (player option on 2011, club option in 2012), so we'd presumably have to offload at least a little salary to make it work.

What do you think? What would be a fair deal? Is a year and half of Ramirez's performance worth two-and-half of Durty's, if the Cubs are willing to eat a majority of his contract? Would it even be worth relegating Huff to the OF for the rest of the year (and next if he gets the rumoured extension)?

I like your thinking, but...

it seems like an awfully big risk to take. About $30m between this year and next year (which he is sure to exercise). If the Cubs would pick up $20m of that, I might take a flyer for a few AAAA-types.

per rotoworld , it’d be about $24m for the rest of this year and next.
2010: less than half of 15.75, so say 7.4
2011: 14.6, if he picks up his option
2012: 2, for the buyout

I'm in this line

I wouldn’t mind ARam, but not for his current contract.

I want a SS or OF.

Precisely so that Huff can go back to 1B

Uribe would be great as a super sub and Rent would be banished to land of misfit toys.

Q: Did you ever make an offer for Vladimir Guerrero?
Sabean: In a word: No. If we had signed Guerrero or [Gary] Sheffield, we would have been without [Long list of replacement level vets]—obviously not being able to field a competitive team, especially from an experience standpoint, given our level of spending.

Can't see it.

Last thing we need is another albatross contract. I’m happy enough standing pat, but if we’re going to make a move, it should be for a RF or SS. And preferably someone really good, in exchange for some of our more middling prospects. Which of course is SO likely.

Pokemonz!

Seriously though, I would not take A-Ram unless the Cubs pay most of the tab and/or we move a bad contract (Rowand, Rent) in the process.
