So does a Bengie trade mean an outfield of Burrell-Torres/Rowand-Nate? Please???

Although I could see Bochy keeping Huff in RF so that Renteria and Uribe can both play.

Insanity is just a state of mind.

by KTJ on Jun 30, 2010 5:39 PM PDT reply actions

That's not necessary.

Uribe can, as I have often pointed out, get close to full time play along with everyone else, with a not-very-difficult-to-assemble player-rotation scheme. (Thus using my quota of hyphens for the day.) Of course, “not very dificult” may well be beyond Mr. Bochy’s accomplishments.

It made no sense for Buster Posey to sit the previous two games. Turns out Giants might’ve been showcasing Bengie Molina to the Rangers.

by FPTV on Jun 30, 2010 5:57 PM PDT up reply actions

Except in Molina’s case, his trade value should go up the less he plays. Sit him on the bench for a week or 2, and then tell the other teams that he’s rested, healed and ready to go for the 2nd half.

Even if this doesn't work out

There will be other teams sniffing at Bengie as the season rolls on. Right now he’s only due about $2.5M for the rest of his contract, and it goes down as the days roll on. As much as we hate him here, and despise his play, objectively-speaking he’s still in the middle of the pack in terms of catchers starting in the majors right now.

objectively-speaking he’s still in the middle of the pack in terms of catchers starting in the majors right now.

Yeah, not really.

by taliesin on Jun 30, 2010 6:11 PM PDT up reply actions

I didn’t state that he was in the middle of the pack offensively. Offense is much less than 50% of the game for a catcher. Defense, handling the pitching staff and calling games is much more important, and Bengie still has a good rep where all of those are concerned.

Personally if I were the Giants I would pay for the rest of Molina’s contract and try and get Tanner Scheppers from the Rangers. Considering the fact that Molina would be a Type A Free Agent I think that this would be a reasonable offer.

And maybe even throw in that Neftali Feliz kid while they’re at it.

by ben p on Jun 30, 2010 6:19 PM PDT up reply actions

Don’t be greedy and miss the boat. The Giants will be lucky to get a B-level prospect for Molina even if they pay his salary. He’s only owed about $2.5M for the rest of the year. No way that amount will buy you Scheppers.
