Poor guy. Hopefully he will be able to come back from this. For how hard some of these guys throw, this is just a reminder of how unnatural throwing a baseball can be for a human arm.

Ouch! That was sad to watch.

Weird.. The official word is that they’re not doing an MRI until tomorrow (Tuesday)? No word on the outlook yet. Wishing him all the best, of course.

by fwoty oz on Jun 29, 2010 12:52 AM PDT up reply actions

I believe they do try and wait for the MRI until the swelling subsides (though I have a feeling that swelling won’t subside for awhile).

I seriously can’t believe this, my whole family in Detroit are all Tiger fans, and Zumaya was definitely a fan favorite, really enjoyed watching him. I really hope it isn’t as bad as i think it is

This wasn't gruesome like the Joe Theismann incident

But it was still gut wrenching.

Well, just read from the Free Press that he was pain free when he left the club house, with teammates saying he’ll make it back from injury

one wonders how much drugs they had to give him for him to be “pain free”… cuz it sure seemed like he was in a lot of pain in that video

As I Laker fan, I have to say that this is one of my least favorite moments ever. What an absolute joke.

You turned to phrase “Laker fan” into a verb. Bravo.

If you’ll excuse me, I need to go Giant fan.

Ouch, that looked bad. The way his hand was trembling was no good.

I feel prickishly demanding!

I couldn't be prouder of my recent adoptee - Tim Lincecum's dealer. He provides the secret fuel behind both Cy Youngs. Also, he taught Timmy the change-up.

Compared with showy sports like Football and Hockey it’s easy to forget how high stress and dangerous baseball is.

Look at Cabrera at the end of the clip. He looks uber-goofey.

by tyrannoman on Jun 29, 2010 1:51 PM PDT reply actions

That must be a violent delivery if it can break his elbow. Given that this is like the 5th time he’s gone down with an injury, you’d think they’d consider adjusting his mechanics.

He might not be a very good pitcher if he did

And it would probably take him a while to change his mechanics to the point where he could pitch accurately again

I’d still prefer that over being out for the majority of the last four seasons, though.

Well one of his elbow injuries (I think the first one actually) occurred during the San Diego fires a few years ago.

by Hobbes2d on Jun 29, 2010 4:27 PM PDT up reply actions

I thought that was the shoulder injury

And then some Detroit journalist got on him because OH NOES HE DIDN’T PROTECT HIS ARM, WHO CARES IF HE WAS TRYING TO HELP SALVAGE HIS PARENTS’ STUFF.

it was

Zumaya’s had so many injuries that aren’t related to pitching or are that are so freaky that very few other pitchers get them.

by morineko on Jun 29, 2010 8:43 PM PDT up reply actions

Wow. He's pretty lucky.
It felt like my elbow exploded,” the Detroit Tigers reliever said on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after the frightening scene in the eighth inning of a 7-5 win over the Minnesota Twins. “It was like someone took a hammer and shattered my elbow.”

An MRI exam on Tuesday revealed a fractured right elbow, a diagnosis the team called “the best bad news you can get.” The hard thrower will miss the rest of this season, but there was no ligament damage to his elbow so they are optimistic he could return to the mound next season.
