Boy that was a lot of work. 5 Giants, I know. But all 5 of them deserve it and I feel bad for leaving Torres off. Let me know who I for got, and who I shouldnt have on there.

The starter for position players is the first one in the row. The Starting pitchers are Jimenez and Lee. Just to clear things up

Here's my ongoing gripe

There seem to be two religions when it comes to All-Star voting:

1) Vote for stars, guys who have earned that label over time. It’s called the “All-Star” Game, after all.

2) Vote for whoever is having the best year, end of story. Sure, ballots are handed out in May, letting you essentially vote on who had the best April, but I want to see the best players at the time of the game actually play.

The thing I find odd about the second POV (in addition to the jibe I threw in there) is that by definition it’s only about strong starts. The second half of last year is still technically “the best year,” but no one ever considers it.

Career April .245/.320/.412

Career August .312/.356/.548

which is why Aubrey Huff has 2 Silver Bats and 0 All-Star Teams

The money lies in the RBIs

LOL you actually think people pick the “star” or “best player” as opposed to being homers.

Gee, I think I’m a people and I certainly try to pick the “best players.”

My Bucardo is better than yours.

A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

LOL

True, there is that third religion: all from your favorite team. I meant in the context of this discussion in which I notice there’s not a single post where anyone owns up for voting for all Giants.

I’d guess many true baseball fans cast multiple ballots that apply different philosophies.

I always do one ballot that’s all Giants. Then I do my real ballots, where I vote for the best players. I openly admit that if it’s close between a Giant and another player, I go with the Giant. It’s not the same as say Boston fans or Yankee fans who just vote for their own players no matter what of course. God I hate that.

I feel prickishly demanding!

I couldn't be prouder of my recent adoptee - Tim Lincecum's dealer. He provides the secret fuel behind both Cy Youngs. Also, he taught Timmy the change-up.

After years of voting with the second method, I finally switched to the first method. I vote for who I think is the best at their position in each league. Mediocre players on hot streaks shouldn’t be there just because of timing.

…Though IDK who I would take out. Good list.

1B: Adrian Gonzalez, Joey Votto

No Poo-holes? I already like this list.

They could be Giants...but not really.

Not because I hate him or anything, but because these two gentlemen ought to represent the NL, especially Votto.

You know

I wish I put Votto at DH, I didnt even think of that

Nah, leave Pujols (and his bad back) at DH.

That will do nicely.

by esseffgeez on Jun 22, 2010 4:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Not bad

But, there’s no way the NL will have 4 second-basemen on the team. Especially not the 4 that you named – only Utley and Prado have any type of track record.

I think the standard fall-back guy for the D’backs will always be Justin Upton, no matter what the stats, for the foreseeable future.

This. They will have 6 first basemen and 5 outfielders.

Tulowitzki deserves it over Uribe. Huff just isn’t an OF, and isn’t All-Star worthy over Pujols, Gonzalez or Votto at 1B. Neither of them are All-Stars. If any position player on the Giants is an All-Star, it’s Torres. He’s been the best position player on the Giants.

by Missing Barry on Jun 22, 2010 5:55 PM PDT reply actions

Ah, interesting. There’s still probably a better option, I personally don’t think much of Uribe defensively as a SS.

by Missing Barry on Jun 22, 2010 6:56 PM PDT up reply actions

There have been a lot of injured SS in the NL. Uribe is one of the only good SS that has stayed healthy

Uribe is the 3rd best NL SS in terms of WAR, behind Ramirez and Tulowitzki. He definitely deserves it

I guess the defensive stats seem to like his defense more than me. Interesting.

by Missing Barry on Jun 22, 2010 8:18 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, Uribe doesn't seem to have a lot of range

though he does seem to compensate for his lack of range with a strong arm. All in all I’d say Uribe is about average at SS, maybe a tick below.

Rooting for Jose Casilla to take his K- and GB-inducing skills to the majors and join his brother.

The Kids: Lewis, Posey, Sandoval, Bowker, Schierholtz, Frandsen, Ishikawa, Amezaga... CHONE WAR projection= 12.7

Current Team: Rowand, Sanchez, DeRosa, Sandoval, Huff, Molina, Renteria, Schierholtz... CHONE WAR projection= 12.6
