Mark DeRosa's wrist doesn't feel good.

From Baggs:

Mark DeRosa unhappy w/how wrist responded @ San Jose. Won't be activated Fri. @PIT. Will shut it down 4 a few days b4 trying again @Fresno.

This is amusing in an Enron-execs-spraying-seltzer-water-at-each-other-while-destroying-retirement-portfolios kind of way. Amusing, sad, horrifying, predictable, surprising....

I think I've found the new slogan for the shirts:

Fred Lewis . . .

. . . apparently learned something in his time in SF, to wit, that walks cheat the game. All his Bochy-loved numbers are up, while his walks rate is about half of what it was here. Oh, and he also has a .375 BABIP; for him, that may not be far from sustainable, as he was always high-BABIP, but it seems unusual.

No one can say what he might have done here, especially under Meulens, but right now he is looking like a younger and slightly superior Aaron Rowand. His 2008 numbers, if they are taken as representative of his real ability, look like a younger, healthy Mark DeRosa. If nothing else, it would have save a pretty penny, though I for one still believe his fielding was unsupportable.

It’s a three-way race between that, Rowand and Zito. And Renteria.

My first reaction...

…was to feel sorry for DeRosa. But then I remembered that he is making $12MM over the next two years to have surgery and rehab. He will be fine (well not his wrist).

Next I was angry at the Giants for not letting him have the operation he so obviously needs.

Then, I figured that there was little cost in delaying this operation as he will not play this season and is not likely to play (well) again, ever.

Now, I am angry again. I’m angry that the FO insists on playing out this fantasy with DeRosa, the team, and the fans. Memo to all who have seen the video of DeRosa’s semi-attached wrist: this injury is NOT compatible with playing major league baseball. Stop fucking kidding yourselves. Nobody else believes charade.
