ok i know this is a dumb question, but i can’t figure it out for myself online.

why are some lenses listed in one size…. ie 20mm
and others listed at like 14mm-42mm.

is the one size a diagonal while the other a height/width. or does one have a range of motion?

No one here gets out alive.

by Bond16 on May 8, 2010 1:13 PM PDT up reply actions

Prime lenses are ones that have one set range of motion, like a 20mm.

14mm-42mm is a zoom lens, letting you take a wide angle photo and whatnot.

by oldjacket on May 8, 2010 1:15 PM PDT up reply actions

cool thanks! but like why would the 20mm be more expensive than the zoom lens?

i like this camera but it comes with two different lens options. and the 20mm is more expensive. i don’t get it.

Aperture, probably. If it’s a low aperture, like f/2 (which means that the lens allows more light), the higher the price is.

That’s still a pretty decent aperture, but it all depends on what you plan to use the camera for.

yeah there is a whole set of these new micro four thirds cameras. olympus has 3 and panasonic has this one. they are all reviewing pretty well. can’t decide. i just want a good camera for sight seeing and taking fun family and friend pics.

No one here gets out alive.

by Bond16 on May 8, 2010 1:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, if you just want a good camera for that, then the 14mm-45mm would be great for that.

"The thing is, it happened."

by walkoff baltimore chop on May 8, 2010 1:24 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah but way bigger lens for carrying around. what do you think the 20mm is best used for?

No one here gets out alive.

by Bond16 on May 8, 2010 1:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Usually for still photos and whatnot. It’d still be good for what you intend to use the camera for, only that you don’t have as much range with the lens.
