minor lines, 5/26/10
Highlights from the Giants' farm: Jorge Bucardo allowed 0 ER in 7.0 IP, and Joe Borchard had a couple XBH.
AAA: Fresno defeated Memphis 5-3
Fresno: CF Eugenio Velez: 3 for 4, SO
Fresno: C Buster Posey: 1 for 4, HR, SO, GiDP
Fresno: RF Joe Borchard: 2 for 4, 3B, 2B
Fresno: SP Matt Yourkin: 5.0+ IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
Velez's three singles raised his AVG to .289 through 41 AB in the PCL. Posey had his 6th HR. Borchard had his 3rd triple and 12th double.
In his fourth start, Yourkin allowed just one run through five innings but then a couple runs in the 6th inning.
AA: Richmond lost to Binghamton 9-1
(after allowing seven runs in the first two innings)
Richmond: 1B-2B Juan Ciriaco: 1 for 3, BB, E
Binghamton: CF Kirk Nieuwenhuis: 2 for 5, HR, 2B, SO
Richmond: SP Mike MacDonald: 1.0+ IP, 8 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 0 K--1 HR
Richmond: RP Wilmin Rodriguez: 4.0 IP, 1 H, 4 K
Ciriaco had one of the Flying Squirrels' two hits and one of their four walks. He has reached base twice in each of his last six starts. The Mets' Nieuwenhuis homered for the second straight day, helping to raise his SLG to an even .500.
MacDonald had his worst start of the season, retiring just three of the fourteen batters he faced. His ERA ballooned to 4.35. In mop-up duty, Wi-Rod faced just one batter over the minimum in 4.0 IP. After no strikeouts in his previous five appearances, he had 4 K. His ERA remains a spotless 0.00 through 12.0 IP.
A+: San Jose lost to Stockton 13-3
San Jose: RF Juan Perez: 2 for 4, 2 SB, CS
San Jose: 1B Brandon Belt: 2 for 4, 2 E
San Jose: SP Kyle Nicholson: 3.2 IP, 12 H, 10 R, 8 ER, 1 BB, 6 K--2 HR, 1 HB, 1 BK
Perez and Belt each had two of the Giants' nine hits, keeping their AVGs above .350. Perez now has a 10/6 SB/CS line. Belt committed his 3rd and 4th errors (in 46 games).
Nicholson has now allowed 7+ ER in three of his eight starts. Tonight his ERA rose by nearly a run and a half to just over 7.00.
A-: Augusta defeated Rome 3-2
Augusta: 2B Ryan Cavan: 2 for 3, 2B
Augusta: SP Jorge Bucardo: 7.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K
With two of the GreenJackets' four hits, Cavan was their only hitter to reach base twice. After hitting .292 in April, he has hit just .237 in May.
In nine starts, Bucardo has averaged exactly two runs allowed per start, but only eleven of the eighteen runs have been earned, so his ERA is below 2.00. Tonight's 8 K was one shy of his season high. He had a 10/2 GO/FO line.

God, the Richmond lineup is full of fail. I think the Giants’ plan is to keep moving them up the ladder together regardless of whether they’re ready, so they’ll all arrive in SF at the same time. Those that get promoted together suck together.
Richmond definitely needs a new Belt to keep their pants from drooping.
Roger Craig Whitaker having a decent year in long relief, BAA around .215, GO / AO 2.7. Yes the guy is 25 years old.

Is Jorge the Bucardo brother with a side-arm motion and unimpressive velo? Or is it Wilber?
Ask me about my blog.
I think both are unimpressive velocity wise, but Jorge does throw sidearmy as I understand it (not sure if Wilber does also).
Juan "Doesn't Cheat The Game" Perez, please keep hitting.
Jorge

Weird. The first two images make him look like a side-armer (almost submarine) and the last one he looks more upright. Has any prospect watcher seen Jorge in person? What’s his motion look like? Velo?
I’ve got a soft spot for side-armers but the Giants killed my Adam Cowart dreams and I’m tentative to really like guys who throw with a funky motion and less than stellar velocity.
BIAS!

RACIST
Jonathan Sanchez: Often maddening to watch, but capable of perfection on a moment's notice---just like his adoptive father.
Cowart
Didn’t the Giants release him because he wanted to start and the Giants wanted him to go to the pen? Also, did he sign anywhere?

I never heard that. I’m pretty sure Cowart knew that his path to the majors was a reliever. He was released in ‘09 after being sent back to San Jose. It seems pretty clear that the Giants weren’t interested in him. He then pitched the rest of ‘09 in the Independent League and had pretty much his regular season — 3.05 ERA, 100.1 IP, 1.7 BB/9, 3.5 K/9, and I’m assuming a bunch of groundballs.
Ask me about my blog.
Yes, that's Jorge (reportedly - I haven't actually seen him pitch)
Hector Sanchez: Underrated. Fighting body bias since the 2009 off season. I still love you, son, even if you're fat.
Your Pro-Posey Agenda Is Clear
Posey had his 6th HR.

GBU
Good: JCP, Jorge Bucardo – 8k in 7IP bring his K% on the year to 25.2%. Combine that with a 62% GB%. Shake over ice and serve. I’ll take two, please.
Bad: Timmy’s last two starts
Ugly: Richmond. And Randy Johnson. He is an ugly man, but a helluva pitcher.
Please tell me we have moved past the dark ages of post hoc ergo propter hoc.
Velez 3 for 4? Uh oh.
I can see the wheels turning in Bork’s head…. The best hope is that he starts to tear up the minors to ONLY increase his trade value, rather than the chances of him being called up.
Mmm…ignorance is a warm blanket.
LOL trade value

Anyone have the video of Posey's homer?
According to Guy Haberman, it was quite a shot.

Don't get me started
Sabean originally signed Bengie Molina to a good contract. They needed a catcher and he gave him a three year deal. Bengie gave them two pretty good years and declined in the final year, which was ok because they had a young stud to replace him. Then what does this idiot GM do? He gives him another deal, even though the decline in this out of shape old catcher was plain to anybody who had seen a game last year. He sends the kid out for seasoning he doesn’t need, and tries to justify it by saying he’s not ready. Now Molina is even more washed up (2 HR in 2 months) while the kid tears up the minors, forcing Sabean to demean the entire minor leagues to make himself look right. Fuck you, Sabean, you stupid asshole. You’re fooling nobody.
