Here’s what’s sad. JT is sitting here giving excellent scouting reports about each of the Giants’ batters. And he’s right on all of them – Velez being a free-swinger who will hack at crap, Rowand can’t lay off the sliders. There are obvious problems with the offense, yet nothing seems to change. Makes me sad for the offensive prospects of the team this season.

so other teams' don't have weaknesses?

Proudly adopted Aubrey Huff. You can't beat that!

by Goofus on May 2, 2010 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions

No, they’ve got them, too. But if the players are unable/unwilling to make the necessary improvements to counter the scouting reports, maybe they shouldn’t be at the top of the order or expected to be perform in key parts of the game. Or maybe don’t sign the guys with such gaping holes for large amounts of money, impacting the rest of the roster.

But really, to hear a Giants’ broadcaster (who happens to also be a special assistant or something, isn’t he?) talk so frankly about the problems gives me pause. Either the batter needs to adapt or something else needs to be done. There’s no sense in having that many easy outs in the line-up.

And also, other teams with a great deal of weaknesses don’t tend to do well, do they? I would hope that the Giants aspire to better results.

It's my blarg! Quick Pitch

My point

is that there’s a “book” on every hitter and pitcher in the game. Every player has weaknesses. I think it jumps out for us watching this team not because their so much worse than everyone else, but because we see them day in and day out.
