That's My Brian! Minor leaguer comments on Sabean

Well, well, well.. We meet again. Twice you have massively crushed our hopes of taking the lead in the West, you have systematically shut us down and belittled us.

But poetically the Giants are a half game out of first place entering a two-game stint against those whacky Padres -- one more time.

The matchup with Clayton Richard is OK, but I am really looking forward to this Latos rematch tomorrow. The guy is an absolute tool. I mean, who taunts little kids then throws the ball out of the park and breaks Dave Flemmings windshield? Dave is and looks like the nicest guy in the world. That's like punching a small child in the back of the head, well, karma's a bitch.

But there is a lot of other news besides what's going on within the diamond and we'll talk about it in this edition of THAT'S MY BRIAN!

  • HUFF ON POSEY
  • BROSHUIS ON POSEY
  • DEROSA BEING GARKO
  • TORRES TOO HOT?

HUFF ON POSEY

I recently outed my kinship with this Aubrey Huff character and he just keeps saying the right things. SF Gate reports that Huff is totally open to moving to left field to bring up the wonder kid Buster Posey.

If I'm told to go out to left field, I'll do it. I've played outfield before. I played (right field) for a whole season in Tampa and played fairly well out there. It's not something I'm not comfortable with. I definitely enjoyed my time out there. Whatever they want. I'll play third, first, left, right, DH... (But) it would ruin my Gold Glove opportunity at first. - Aubrey Huff

Oh Huff!

Personally, I don't like this move at all. We are supposed to be raising Posey as a catcher and that's where he needs to be. Molina is going to retire very soon due to the media bashing of his epic slowness and Eli Whiteside is.. well.. a great backup catcher.

Sadly, Huff has to be a power hitter on this team that has offensive juggernauts such as Matt Downs and Bengie Molina. To his credit, Huff has been the surprise player of the year. Stay over at first my man, continue being clutch 70% of the time and soon we'll get you a gold glove.

BROSHUIS ON POSEY

I love and openly embrace those who have realized how big of a moron Brian Sabean is. With that in mind, Garrett Broshuis has an open invitation to my dinner table any time.

He's a former minor league pitcher who has actually thrown to Buster. His take on the whole situation turns out to be a decent read. In it, he throws a punch back at Brian and gives an unbiased (kind of) perspective on where and why Posey should be brought up.

Some might say there's no better learning experience than actually doing it. You might as well just throw him in the big leagues and let him catch those guys. But again, there's no need for catching right now. The pragmatic move is to allow his glove to continue to develop in Triple-A, where, believe it or not, he's still catching some pretty darn good pitchers. - Garrett Broshuis

He says that Buster, who has only been catching for a few years, did a great job catching his stuff. But he realistically says that his stuff is nothing compared to Hyde Sanchez or LinCYcum. He says his glove still needs to improve but if needed Posey could hold his own. WE ALL know this, well all of us but the front office.

On second thought, you are obviously a pitcher with zero talent and by our boy Sabean's standards you compare to my girlfriend when it comes to throwing a slider. Good thing Sabean is the only one going by his standards, so preach on brother, preach on.

DEROSA BEING GARKO
Last year our offense was as pathetic as Ethier's pinky, so the brains Brian Sabean brought in Ryan Garko. He has a total baseball name so on that basis alone I was pumped to have him on board. A few weeks later we launched a nationwide manhunt to find out where Ryan Garko went.. He just disappeared.

He was last seen cleaning my neighbors pool a few months ago. It feels like Mark Derosa is in the same position... Only we know where Derosa is: He's flapping his ligaments all over the Embarcadero.

Derosa has just been placed on the DL and Eugenio Velez has been called up again (we won't go there today).

It seems like Derosa will be the 2009 Garko with a dash of Renteria. Can't wait for the patented he's hurt but let's bring him back asap so he can hit grounders back to the pitcher and finish with a .198 average move.

Where in the world is Mark Derosa? On a hospital bed.

TORRES TOO HOT?

Andres Torres was in the big leagues for four years and had a .210 average. After four more years of no MLB service he became a San Francisco Giant.  In 75 games last year he had 152 at-bats and despite decent numbers he seemed to come up short when it counted and with 45 strikeouts, you could say he wasn't seeing the ball.

Already in 28 games he is half way to that total and he looks like.. *gulp* a good left fielder.

I keep telling myself, sample size, sample size.

He's always been known as a solid outfielder and he has speed. But his bat, oh Lord his bat.. However, this year his average is .299, he's drawn 14 walks, has a .407 OBP and five stolen bases.. WOW, sounds like a leadoff hitter.

Yet Nickelback is still hitting first for some funky reason.

Torres has grown into a pleasant hitter which means his performance on the Sabean-ometer is up to legendary status. It's obviously too early to call this guy a superstar, but I have a feeling Bruce and Brian have torn down their Eugenio Velez shrine and put up a hand-made Torres sculpture.

I was one of the first doubters and head-caller when Torres was grounding into every double play possible, so I won't be the first to call him our everyday left fielder.. But, he's been fun to watch, let's just hope Sabean doesn't get angry with him and sends him down to AAA when Garko.. I mean Renteria.. I mean Derosa comes back.

Because we all know what happens in AAA.

It’s probably bad form to copy a entire post from your blog and post it here word for word. And that’s coming from me, the king of spam.

Ask me about my blog.

I dunno. Posting an entire post seems like better form than, for instance, just posting a link. He doesn’t even really include a link to his blog, other than the credit on the photo.

He is sharing original content—-why does it matter that it also appears somewhere else?

I guess if it appears somewhere else on the web, it’s better to link it then copy+paste it? That’s my feeling, but I doubt anyone cares. I’ll let the mods do their thing.

Pedantry is pedantic

FWIW, I seldom read Fanshots, because

1. They are buried at the bottom of the page.
2. Its just a link to somewhere else without much in the way of thought, and frankly I come here to read the opinions of the commenters and mostly the posts themselves.
3. Fanshots are links to msm usually. And those guys are usually San Francisco lying cocksuckas!

The issue isn’t whether you read the fanshots or not (I don’t really care, frankly). But when a topic is already covered on a board, it’s not “polite” to start an identical topic. Often the mods here will delete dupes, to keep the discussion on one. Who cares if the fanshot links to “msm” (I’m using scare quotes here)? One can still discuss the topic raised.

pre-game bitchiness.

Even before they started whaling on the Giants, I tended to skip those games. They are as boring, and uninteresting as a bowl of 3 day old mayonnaise. Its like watching a Giants inter squad game actually. Except they’re better

The Padres are the planters warts of the National League. Unsightly, somewhat embarrassing depending upon the location, but once they’re removed, you never really ever think about them again unless they come back.

Therefore I blame Bud Fucking Selig for putting them on the schedule 3 times in the first 6 weeks of the season—and anytime I can blame something nasty on Selig, its silver lining inside a raincloud.
