Oh man, awesome to have Sean Smith’s work in one easily searchable place like this.

I love Sean Forman.

I have never, ever heard of Hughie Critz. His demographics on BB-Ref are kinda funny.

“Position: Second Baseman
Bats: Right, Throws: Right
Height: 5’ 8”, Weight: 147 lb."

They don’t make ’em like that anymore.

I was going to ridicule you and post a Eckstein pick, but even he is bigger (5’7 175 lbs).

Then I thought of Omar (5’9" 175) and that didn’t work then I thought of Ozzie Smith and he was 5’11" and 150 lbs.

Sure, they do. They just call them “batboys” now.

I call park-dimension shenanigans on all RF zone ratings in Mays Field. I don’t have evidence to back this up, but shenanigans.

Doesn’t the green monster fuck with left fielders’ UZR at Fenway? I could definitely see similar things happening for the arcade wall and triple alley.

The Fordham Flash!

I wonder what this place would’ve said about the Frisch for Hornsby trade at the time….and then again when Hornsby got dumped. In authentic period slang, of course, complete with witty cultural references.

fangraphs WAR only starts in 2002 and uses MGL’s UZR numbers
Sean Smith’s WAR uses his total zone for fielding and goes back to the beginnings of time

They’re WAR for Timmy is lower than Fangraphs.

Meanwhile 1985 Dwight Gooden was beastly. His 84 WAR seems low though. I R Confused. :(
