LOL HANK!

"That the Giants can back-date a DL trip makes a move with DeRosa more likely. If his wrist starts to feel markedly better, he still can return within a week."

It reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer is cooking the pig and it get's launched across Springfield.

[Homer and Bart are chasing the rolling rotisserie pig. It rolls through some bushes]
Homer: It's just a little dirty! It's still good, it's still good!
[the cart falls off the edge of a drainage culvert, and the pig floats down the stream]
Homer: It's just a little slimy! It's still good, it's still good!
[the pig reaches a dam at the end of the stream and plugs the drain hole. The water pressure builds up behind it, until it launches out of the hole into the air]
Homer: It's just a little airborne! It's still good, it's still good!
Bart: It's gone.
Homer: I know.

WHY IS BENGIE?!

Why not just put him on the DL so the Giants don’t have to play a man short for a week and a half?

Because they love playing a man short. That’s their thing. I’ve been complaining about it for at least 4 years.

It’s weird seeing a Fanpost that only got 14 comments.

That’s only because I haven’t written a FanPost in a few years. Actually, I’ve never written a FanPost — they were still Diaries the last time I did one.

Also: This was a great blast-from-the-past blurb from OGC:

“Adrian Gonzalez, who I thought would do well, hasn’t been doing much for the Padres. And Carlos Pena has been bouncing up and down for years now. And I thought Hee Seop Choi was ready when he was with the Marlins, and here he is in AAA again. Then, of course, Chris Shelton comes up and makes it all look easy.”

Press Release from Two Months from Now:
San Francisco Giants’ left fielder Mark DeRosa hasn’t played with the team in over two months while waiting for the tendon and nerve irritation in his wrist to calm down. The Giants are considering playing DeRosa retroactively on the 15-day disabled list. Since he was last active over 60 days ago, that would make him available to play tonight. Said manager Bruce Bochy: “We’re still considering whether surgery is an option, but we want Rosy contributing with the team this season. He can contribute with the thing this season. We hope that giving him a little time on the DL will help calm things down. We’ll re-evaluate where he’s at tonight before the game and see if he’s ready to go. It may be a few more days yet.”

playing = placing.

I also have the Chronicle’s team of crack copy editors working for me, apparently.

I feel bad for DeRosa. He’s got a physical problem, but you know he’s feeling pressure to play despite what further damage it might cause. Regardless of the $12 million investment, I’d rather see him fix what needs fixin’.

This. I was listening to the local sports show this morning on the way to work and the guy was ridiculing baseball players for 2 months out for “mild” strains(Rollins) while hockey players are itching to get back in (Some Flyer who broke his foot late in april will play tonight). I am more for the guys being 100% healthy and never play again, even if he has money owed to him, rather than risk a career ending and life altering injury.

and this is why

I hate B+S. Forget the veteran love, bad roster decisions, whatever else, they’re actively pressuring a man into making a decision that could ruin his career. Fuck those fucking fuckers.

Yeah, this pisses me off. Not only is it disrespectful to Derosa, it’s pressuring him to play when he appears to not be physically capable of playing his best. It’s not good for the team.

I know, and the Giants should retro it to 2 Sundays ago, but in the long run it won’t matter much.

DeRosa has been placed on the DL retroactive to last Sunday with Velez taking his roster spot. Sanchez is in the lineup for @FresnoGrizzlies

He should be placed on the DL to at least rest it officially but hopefully get it fixed correctly this time, no matter how long he’s out for. DeRosa has been awful at the plate and continuing to run him out there with one hand is just stupid.

Then again, we’re talking about the Giants management and medical staff so it’s a foregone conclusion they want to rush him back.
